Boostin ITR

When I ordered my 2000 ITR, I was all about all-motor. But then something happened, I got my ass handed to me by a Camaro. The next day, I ordered the Turbo kit. To get the same power all-motor, the money spent would have been the same, or more. As far as selling the car, I can unbolt all the hardware and return it to stock in 2 days. And I can use the kit on any B series. If I had gone crazy with all motor mods, there is no returning to stock, you can't unport the head.

Lot's of people have boosted Type-R's, but if I knew that I was going to boost when I bought the car I would have gotten a GSR. With the money you save you can make up the difference in power and handling. Check out the Forced Induction forum at Honda-Tech.com. Use the search function. You can find out anything there. Let us know how it turns out.

Well as it turns out, I've had the car turboed for almost 2 years, with extensive track use, no issues.

Jan, I've read a lot of your posts. I know your car turned out great. My advice was to YellowITR#1474.

Lots of talk has been going here about turbo and whatnot, but how are these cars being run? Most people I talk to run their R's for auto-x, etc.. I guess for maybe street use turbo is ok, but I'm yet to see a turbo R run auto-x.

Good observation, turbo and auto-x don't go together too well. As you know when you are trying to power your way through an apex, you need predictable power, boost comes on so strong sometimes you will get excessive wheelspin and you will be slower over all. You could make up some of the time lost on the straight-away but you're better off with all motor on the auto-x. My turbo R gets used on the street and dragstrip.

I want to turbo my R but I have one problem I can get an awesome deal on a brand new KKK K3T turbine $900 USD which is used on the Top Fuel Civics in Japan http://www.topfuel.to (if u can read japanese) but i have no specs on the turbo then i have to get all the other parts manifold...ect. Should I just get a kit ??? What is the best out there?

Dude,
Don't by a turbo that you have no specs on, then you will be trying to build the car around the part. In the long run where's the savings? Buy a good kit RevHard, Greddy, Fmax, Drag, most of these make excellent power, and are track proven out of the box. Plus if you need a part or service for the KKK, you're going to have to deal overseas.

All the info that i have on the KKK is the intake(diameter of the impeller fan blade) is 54mm. The exhaust is 56mm the outside edge of the impeller and turbines are around 76mm. Iknow that this is a rare turbo but this is what i wanted to get for a long time. should i walk away or should i get it i could probably sell it if this set-up wouldn't work. Could be used on mr-2, talon,or SR20DET sylvia motor and its t3flange.

Sounds like either a huge T3 or T3/T4 based on the compressor wheel size. It's a risk, but if you think you can sell it and get your money back, then what the hell, you only live once! But don't forget all the other parts you need to buy individually to turbo your car, I would get prices on everything, and then compare it to a kit. I paid about $3800 for my Rev Hard which came with a T3/T04E (which has a 60trim compressor wheel).
