In all honesty I'm trying to jam in as much as I can now because after a kid pops out I doubt I'd be making any events for a loooonnnng time. Only being married would be a reason to go to these things but having little ones running around I think would be the reason to stay home.

the conversation wasn't about you in particular but just the general idea of leaving home to go to these things.

If you for one second think you're going to be as flexible with time, money, etc/ with your girlfriend when you get married you're horribly mistaken. Once that ring goes on they're a whole new animal!

You saying it didn't change when you got married? My wife still lets me do plenty, hence the car/truck/trailer/video games systems/four wheeler/etc. When we were dating though it was different...
Also, my wife always says it's not the one who wears the pants, it's the one who takes them off.

hahaha! Exactly! I'm glad to see another voice of reason. With that said my wife lets me do plenty as well. Taking 3 days off PTO for a guys weekend trip was pretty giving and I haven't been getting an abundant amount of grief for it. Especially two weeks after spending $700 for a track weekend, another outing with the boys.Bradstard wrote:You saying it didn't change when you got married? p.s. If your wife doesn't give a shit about what you do, where you spend your time, or where you spend your money then I'd certainly question that relationship. This concludes our episode single people not knowing wtf it's like to be married with our host, Dr. Phil.

Re: The OT place for OGs to BS w/o BS.
Not saying that's not the case in many relationships and kids defintely change things, but I would never date or marry someone that would be that demanding about me not doing the things I love and live for withot good reason. Something like an aniversary or big joint event sure, but simply because she doesn't like when I go away for 2-3 days every once in awhile to do the things that mean a ton to me is a no go. I'd never demand that of her so why would I ever date someone who acts like that. It's not a matter of not caring what eachother do but understanding that there are thngs you each will want to do and that not all of them have to be together. If they are great. If nt, it's not the end of the world. That's the only healthy way for me to live and has nothing to do with why I'm single right now.
I have friends who's significant others can't go 5 min without calling them and complaining that they're not at home. Fuck that.

I just can't understand this mentality. I will never ask permission to do what I want to do, and I don't expect my girlfriend to ask permission for what she wants to do. We keep each other informed and resolve any conflicts. Baby shower on Mid-Ohio weekend?CivicBeater wrote:With that said my wife lets me do plenty as well.

Before you go on the "you're not married" tangent, I've invested years into this relationship to make sure I wont be stuck in the same situation. When it goes to the next level, I'm confident nothing will change. If it does, I'll correct it. Its my opinion that they change because you let them change.

Agreed. Sure they'll understand why you want to do it and they'll let you do it. However, it's up to you whether or not you want to be in the doghouse.Erik95LS wrote:Not saying that's not the case in many relationships and kids defintely change things, but I would never date or marry someone that would be that demanding about me not doing the things I love and live for withot good reason. ^^Sounds like major trust issues.
Generally speaking, I'd rather my wife be a little overbearing about me leaving than the other way around. All in all, I think there is something really wrong with a relationship if there is no attachment to each other.

I had those same exact feelings prior to getting married. Now going on 7 years in my relationship 4 years of which we've been married it just happens. That's all I can say. :Shrug:98spec022 wrote: Before you go on the "you're not married" tangent, I've invested years into this relationship to make sure I wont be stuck in the same situation. What Erik said, exactly. I've been dating the same chick for over 5 years now...so we're already into the old married couple phase, ha. She is very cool with everything I do and even joins along at a few of the meats to see what I'm into.
Yeah, we used to have a chick working here...nice boobies...but she would call her bf every fuggin 5 mins and whine if he didn't answer. Never would I marry a chix like that..

Attachment has nothing to do with it...not at all. Sure, when I go to a track event instead of hanging out with the gf she's sad but fully supports what I do. Re: The OT place for OGs to BS w/o BS.
I was just speaking in general. However, I agree, definitely not worth the misery if your significant other keeps handcuffs on you.
Bottomline, my wife is bummed when I leave home. If she wasn't, I'd be concerned. Regardless, I'm grateful for having a wife that cares that I spend as much of my free time with her.

Not trying to bash you here, it just sounds to me like you've gotten complacent. Personally I have a very difficult time with people telling me what I should be doing. Because of that I'm not likely to let a situation deteriorate to the level that I am unhappy.CivicBeater wrote:I had those same exact feelings prior to getting married.
