I was referring to the magnetic part. 9/10 laptops suffer from the power port on the laptop getting worn out from shit hitting the power cord while it's inserted etc. etc. Apple's will simply come off with no damage to the port or anything.

Tried a different outlet or power strip? I had one outlet on a power strip blow out - I was about to order a new PS when a buddy suggested I try that.
When I press the power button, the case fan spins, but only briefly. There are only 2 fans on this setup... a case fan and a PSU fan. I bought a cheapy CoolMaster 500w PSU and nothing has changed. Pat, yeah I tried a different outlet, but as my luck really sucks it doesn't surprise me that this wouldn't be an easy fix. Somebody please tell me it is not the HD..... losing 3k pics of Alex would suck so bad.

At this point I am hoping it is the MB. Any recommendations from the peanut gallery?

It definitely won't be you hard drive so don't worry about that. I was going to suggest picking up a cheap power supply but you already did that. I'd say the next step would be the motherboard, but desktop hardware has never been my strongest point.

Backup of backups!!!

Try jumping the power pins on the MB to make sure it's not the switch on the case as well.

I too don't believe it's the HD sir.

Love that about my MBP. My roommate's black lab loves to walk around my computer and knock the power cord off. Luckily with my MBP it doesn't hurt anything.

My first attempt at recording audio separately so goproHD footage actually sounds nice for once. I mounted it off the front bumper so audio would have been completely useless otherwise.

Your situation is difficult to troubleshoot, but it could be your motherboard, power supply, or the power button. Is the computer under warranty? If yes, call them immediately (not sure when the warranty runs out).

Keep me posted John, feel free to call me if you need to.

New Macbook Pro is in hands. Now I'm monitor shopping:

Primary use will be browsing web, photo editing in PS, and hopefully editing movies in iMovie etc.

I wish I wasn't such a queer and always bought apple monitors, they're a mega ripoff. That's a total aesthetic purchase

I haven't bought the new 24" one yet. It sometimes pops up in the refurb store for $599 (which is still expensive as shit).

Yes, I found this:

So I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

Thanks for the offer Ryan.

As stated. PSU was replaced without any changes. I then jumpered the power switch and no dice again.

This is a Gateway GT4010, cira 2005 IIRC. I wish that the MB was on the proper side of the case, but I think it is time for an upgrade anyhoo.

SO, I went ahead a bought an ASUS M4A78T-E MB, an Athlon II x4 (640) cpu and 4 gb of memory. I am still looking for a decent case and a great internal card reader. I hope to have it together late this week but more than likely it'll be after my trip to the Bahamas. I am hoping I won't need to tweek the BIOS, but I'll give ya a call if I do.

How are you Driod X owners liking it now after owning it for a little while? Wishing you opted for the smaller incredible or is it everything you ever dreamed of? Verizon must've updated their website because now it's saying my plan is compatible for upgrading to the X. I'm on a cheap grandfathered Alltell plan so I do not want to change.

I like it, but I definitely don't think it is the end all be all of phones. I have no regrets in terms of the size. The OS is a bit clunky IMO. It doesn't have fluid feel of an Apple product. Some apps (camera) take a while to load etc. The default email client leaves something to desire, but since Motorola is covering the $20 license to Touchpad I'm pretty happy with the new email client.

Good to know. Explain this touchpad deal. I will be using it a lot for email. If anything I'm sure there is an app for better email mgmt. Is this possibly what the touchpad is?

Thanks,

Eric

Here you go sir:
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/10/mo ... ge-issues/

I'm already noticing some con's to it, as it isn't nested inside the OS like the default email client. Some examples so far are that it doesn't show up in your manage accounts page. Not a big deal if you don't use it. Gmail doesn't either. I'm hoping an OS update will fix that.

The big reasons for the switch are consistent email notifications and the ability to access your inbox folders.

Good info.

I assume when 2.2 comes out there will be a new process for rooting them?

Any new updates, such as 2.2 will most likely patch the Root exploit.

In regards to emails, try different email applications. Mine doesn't have an issue and I'm using the default HTC Sense app. However, I don't get more than 5 or so emails a day on it (personal use, not work)

I might make a last minute decision and go with the incredible. Playing with both today the X is a bit bigger and would kind of be like having a huge dildo in your pocket all day. The little extra battery life of the incredible is something to consider as well. Plus when 2.2 comes out the incredible will have 720p record capabilities. It's more compact and more of the realistic option I THINK. Fawk I am just so confused on which one to go with. I don't know if bigger is always better. The reviews on the X are great just as the incredible. HELP!

Some key things to your argument...

Battery life is relevent once you root and install apps such as SetCPU where you can underclock your device or set profiles.

Don't wait, or count on 2.2 fixing everything. (2.1 sure didn't)

If you root, I'm sure you can change the recording capabilities NOW of your device.

All in all, go with the profile (size) and Manufacturer you like. I'm a sense kind of guy so I like HTC devices.
