I mean think about it, we few West Coasters that keep driving out plan all the aspects ahead of time to make it work.
Every time I go to Expo, I literally break my bank, haha, but why do I go? THE PEEPS! THE EXPERIENCE!! When I'm older, I don't ever wanna be like, "Man, I didn't go to any Expos because I 'couldn't justify the trip'." If that were the case, I'd never make it to ANY Expo simply based on where I live vs. where they're held. In fact, every year, I tell myself that the trip (cost, time, what-have-you) is realistically unjustifiable - but then I end up showing up and having the time of my life and it's worth it.
You guys also have it really lucky in that alot of you R peeps get together multiple times a year, so maybe that's playing into your "West Coast Expo isn't that justifiable" feelings. The culture out here is so different, that for us to have that in-person R-camaraderie, we almost have to drive thousands of miles, etc.
And I think the East Coasters also have to keep in mind that the majority of the past and future Expos will be Mid-to-Eastern US locations; so why miss out on this one West Coast "extravaganza" because it's not a typical type of trip, or track days, etc.? (Steez - the things you said remind me alot of what West Coast people say about expo and why they won't attend.)
I'm not trying to start any argument here, nor am I writing in an angry tone, just thinking out loud. I know I don't regret getting to track VIR and ACC. Who knows if I'll ever get to track VIR again - it's so far! But at least I have that, "Yeaaah, it was a bad-ass trip and track experience!" memory.
I appreciate the social event that expo is, otherwise you probably wouldn't of seen me ride 14 hours in a focus with a giant moon boot on my leg just to hang out.
Once again, I'm not trying to be a debbie downer just being a little realistic. The organizers probably need to hear different perspectives outside of "man that'd be awwwwwwwsome". And then have everybody bomb out when time comes.
The west coast people deserve though and you AZ-diehards need a rest, in addition it could probably collectively help the community by converting a few hardparkers. I don't think it sounds like a terrible idea at all, just realistically I don't think I could personally make it. When the 2011 event schedules start coming out maybe some secondary events might pop up though.

I would like the event to be relatively close to the Midwest. I'd prefer Mid-Ohio as well. Wherever the final location is, I'll try and make it out there, with or without the R.

Troof. When you're catering to 100+ people it's easy to be blinded by the 4 hardcore members on here that would drive 26 hours no questions asked. In reality, I believe the majority will not find this feasible.
It's one thing to be super gun-ho and support the idea. It's another to actually be able to participate.

I should clarify my statement from before. I definitely prefer it be someplace like Mid-Ohio (really would love it to be there above all other places!), but if it is out west I will do everything I can to be there and driving. No way to know till it gets closer, but I foresee making it work if that's the case. West coast could be a great success, but the locals out there really need to step up and actually go AND track.....

Mid Ohio has been mentioned far too many times, it might confuse people and derail the topic at hand.
I lack confidence that the west coast guys could generate a decent turnout, but I hope I'm wrong. I'd just hate to say "I knew you guys wouldn't show" at the cost of an expo bombing. But on a different note it could really pump some serious life in the community by enlightening the parkers and mend the rift
Cough cough would also love M-O

Here's a thought...
Have a very early registration so that there is ample time for a Cali event. Have that cut off date plenty far in advance so that there is an Option 2 that will work.
See how many really sign up for a Cali event. That will be the only way to really get the $$$ to make it happen. If those WC folks can pull it off, I say go for it.
I know Mel, and WA Chris will be there no matter what, but it's those on the fence that carry the most weight of the event happening out there. Reality is, there will be less from the East coast due to reasons already mentioned. That's not to say some won't do it, and plenty of Mid-West folks are half way there.
All in all if you have plenty of time to do the registration, it will truely gauge the interest in the event there and the possibility of it coming to fruition.
<---- hopes an event does happen in Cali/West Coast.

If you guys know of any local forums (Local to west coast), do post. I know there are a ton of ITR's on the west coast. I haven't seen mention of this on H-T yet. We just have to get the word out and see what kind of turnout there could be.
Here's one I was going to check on as I know there are tons of guys from cali on there:

I agree with everyone and the fact that lots of East coasters probably wouldn't be able to make it/West coasters would stay hard parkers. I'm not trying to argue or make the rift get any bigger than it is between coasts, haha. I was just babbling and I was REALLY bored at the time, so it was probably extra-babbly, haha.
You guys all know that I will be at E11 no matter where it is and, as usual, will be harassing everyone I know from out here to attend anyway.
I do like the idea of an early Cali registration w/time for a backup more-eastern track if it doesn't work.
I also noticed that no post was made on either HT -- I was waiting for an official to do it so it wouldn't get all confusing if many people posted it.

P.S. - If Expo is far away again, I propose there be a "Help the Die-Hards Make the Trip" fund. LOL, WAT?!?!

They need to start announcing the driver (or top 3) that drove the furthest to attend at the banquet, that would be a cool thing to recognize. Like the guy that drove solo all the way from Washington for his first event, I thought that was pretty damn cool.
Either way just due to your relentless dedication traveling to expo why break the routine and have it close?

HAHA, yeah, and how VIR was my first track event ever.
Honestly, if you guys all just wanna fly out here to escape some winter snow, I'd be happy to see you! haha. We're so lonely out hurrr!

I'll look into the logistics of doing a very early registration for the event with a deadline of make or break. That's not a bad idea. That's similar to what happened in 04. AMP > Summit > BeaveRun.
What are the biggest pros and cons to a west coast event? HPD's potential ideas (tour, RTR car, etc), a nice trip out west, etc? Too far a drive, isolating our longtime base, not enough west coasters sign up and drive?
Feel free to pass the word on this thread.
I'd like to keep the discussion here though because we own this site. Thanks!

HPD's facility tour (in theory) is a big Pro for me, along with seeing one of the RTR car's in person. Con would be the large amount of vacation days needed for this event and the increased cost.

Instead of the southwest tip of the US, is it even worth thinking about doing somewhere in between? That way, its not EXTREME for the East coast folks and the west coast wouldn't have a ridiculous drive to ACC/VIR/Mid-ohio, etc. This'll give us a good middle ground and we're not losing those who make the trip every year or who are contemplating 20+ hour trips in a car they are planning on tracking and driving home. Just a thought..
I would be a little nervous driving 20 hours w/ my dd, tracking it, and driving it back home with it being a higher mileage car.

Ok you bunch of Jerks, already shooting us down with out giving us a chance
In this event, is it only ITR people only??? or can there be orther makes invited to this event. You make it other makes and I will start personally inviting car crews like FF-squad, ATS, DPK guys AND the whole WESTEND ALIGNMENT crew to the track event.
In this list I already have 2 company ITR's and I am looking to add more. The rest are personally owned ITR's ONLY. Now if this is open to other makes of Hondas this can be a really BIG event.

Anybody can put their name on a list, so that doesn't really give me any confidence. I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who love to track, don't get me wrong.
When it comes time to pay up is when you find out who is serious, but this year there seemed to be a lot of people who had to back out for various reasons even after they had paid.

I agree, and that is by no means saying anything towards the West Coast but towards registration in general. This year doesn't apply, but we generally have enough trouble getting registered drivers on the East Coast.

Not in 2010. Maybe my lack of faith stems with that you never see the socal itr guys on oght/nwp organize their own track days, the most you'll get is eibach and the laguna beach meet. But I will have no problem sticking my foot in my mouth if registration stats show otherwise.
