Allow me to introduce my caR

Post by STL_ITR_01 »

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and I wanted to introduce my 2001 ITR and share a few pics. I bought the car in June '08 and have been very pleased with it. It took me about 3 years to find her. The car has far exceeded my expectations of driving pleasure and ownership. I've always been a car enthusiast and remember reading magazine articles about the Type R in the late 90's, but back then I was more into American V-8s with gobs of hp. But I've learned to appreciate these cars and that there's more to a fun driving experience than just going fast in a straight line. The car currently has 58K miles. It's all stock except for a Mugen air intake that I installed and the windows are lightly tinted. Badge # is 01-893.

Nice! Yoo gonna get along just fine here 8) Check out the Expo discussion at the top of the forum. It's just outside Chicago this year, would be awesome if you can make it. Everyone there shares that same thought ^^ :P

Enjoy and keep heR safe! Welcome to ITRCA :)

Hmmm....it's tempting and sounds like a lot of fun! Especially since the event is only a few hours from where I live (if I keep heR under 100.. lol). I'll definately look into it!

Your car looks like it is pristine condition, these cars are rare by themselves, but it is great to see there are some left in this condition. Please check out Expo, attend if you can't drive at the event. It is a great community event and there are several members from your area you could caravan up with. Please keep this caR safe, it can be a challenge, so please take the proper steps. You will be thankful in the end that you did. Rock on.

Beautiful car that looks to be in great shape. Nice choice on the intake, definitely a quality part. Keep it safe!

I appreciate the warm welcome. I bought a few things to freshen up the caR's appearance after I purchased it. I've replaced the exhaust manifold cover under the hood (the original was kinda faded), new OEM floormats and a new OEM muffler. The car has a couple of minor flaws: small dent on the rear pass. quarter panel, and a small bulge in the hood as if someone had left a tool or something underneath and tried to close it. Other than that, the car is in excellent condition!! I agree, the Mugen intake was a great choice and I'm glad I went with it. Sure it's expensive, but that is the only modification I wanted to make to the car, and I didn't want to compromise. It was kind of a pain to install, but that's a whole separate topic. But in my opinion, it's a piece that belongs on the Type R.

Very clean and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

BTW, I'm just wonder how you deal with the A/C line when you install the Mugen intake?

There's really only 2 AC lines that get in the way. They're mounted to a bracket underneath the stock air box. This bracket has to be removed in order to bend them. You just have to use caution so you don't kink the lines. It's a very tight fit once the Mugen is in place.

I wasn't able to find any useful information on the internet for the install. It's a rare car/intake combo. To make it even more difficult, the instruction are in Japanese and the illustrations are hand-drawn. :o

I can post some pictures I took during the install if you're interested!

That will be great! Because I have the same intake but haven't install yet. I know the JDM ITR should have no problem because the 2 A/C line are in the other side (next to power steering line). Any information or photos will be great!

Very clean caR! I like that you are replacing the "faded" parts with new OEM Honda parts!!! It's been well kept. Glad you appreciate it and are stoked about it's not-so-straight-line abilities!

Here are those pics you requested. There's only a few 'cuz during the installation I had no intention of giving a future tutorial on this...I just snapped a few pics along the way. But if you have any more questions, let me know.

I had to remove the pass. side wheel-well and the plastic deflector underneath the front of the car. One of the hardest parts was getting the transmission mount back on with the new intake in place.

I'm a bit jealous now. I bought my intake used and I do not have some of those mounting brackets. Everything looks good!

I appreciate the compliments!
Yeah, I don't care for white Mugen logo. I was suprised it came with the shipment. I think it may look better with no logo. What do you think? The one below is the only other one that I've ever seen on this intake. I like it, I think it blends in well. They must have discontinued it 'cause I couldn't find one online.

The caR's beautiful. Really clean. It is nice to see someone dedicated to keeping the car prestine(replacing the heat sheild to freshen it up). Congrats and keep her safe. Welcome to the group.
