oil leak that cant be found?

my oil was completely gone when i checked it at 84000 miles, i thought maybe the dealer just forgot to add it since i got the car at 81500 miles. anyways i put in 4 quarts cuz thats how much it took.
anyways its now 85500 miles and the oil is gone. what the hell is going on, there is never any puddle under my car and i dont think my engine is burning oil cuz theres never black smoke coming out the back. but i have noticed some black exhaust will collect on the back bumper once in a while before i wash it, is that oil?

it could be. do a leak down and compression test.
ps- if there is no spot it is burning it. oil smoke isnt black it is blue/grey. black is fuel. white is coolant.

Fix what is normal on our cars like I have said in the past?
Pistong rings... burning oil... 500 miles per quart... kinda normal for higher mileage ITRs Especially for ITRs that have seen some 'use'...
If the mechanic says anything other, be suspect of him. But be sure to report back, I'd like to hear what he has to say.

it took 3 quarts of oil to get back up to the 2nd dot on the dipstick. so if bbasso is right 500 miles per quart is about right.
i took it to the exxon service station and of course they are closed, so i made an appointments for thursday. but if bbasso is riight (cuz this car DEFINATLY sees alot of high rpm use). so maybe im just runnin through it cuz of the Type R and my heavy foot.
could it be cuz the engine is getting to hot? could i get a precision intercooler without a turbo or SC and just use that to keep the engine cooled down? would that maybe help? im also gonna change the oil filters

okay finally took it in to get it checked, as i guessed it is burning oil but they said its just the type of engine, theres nothing wrong with it.
the only problem is when it burns oil, it leaves a black residue on my hood, what can i use to remove this from my hood?

On the hood??
The underside? Sounds like an exhaust leak at the head. I had a similar issue. Pretty much wipes off...use a mild cleaner if it's real bad.

no its on the upward side of the hood. it collects there in streaks. the header i have is a very old DC sports one, it looks rusted as hell and has like this wrap around it. the header is apart of the exhaust right? its the exhaust manifold if im not mistaken. i like the way my car sounds so if i got a new header i could keep the rest of the exhaust right?

Where the header meets the head. I have a cheap header on my R and there was a shitty spotweld that was holding the flange slightly away from the head causing the leak right there. I just had to file it down flush and the leak stopped.

does it have a breather filter on the valve cover or does it still have the hose to the intake from the valve cover. that is probably where it is gettin the oil from, esp. if it is starting from the back of the hood.
also I saw you say something about an intercooler keeping the engine cool. NO it will not. it is there to cool air and with a turbo or SC under the hood the car will get hotter not to mention with a ramhorn manifold you will need a half sized radiator. if you want to cool the engine bay a bit pull the weather stripping off the cowl near the back of the hood right up by the window. it is just a little rubber strip and will help a very slight bit.
if you like consistant high rpm use I would stay away from any forced induction set up unless you have deep pockets to make sure it can handle it

i was looking at my exhaust and it turns out i have a Type 1 Racing exhaust. from what ive seen its a pretty decent exhaust.
I took some pictures of my DC sports header, it has this bandage around it. why would these be there unless it had problems?

I was reading this forum and i saw that Bbasso said that itr's can burn a quart of oil in 500 miles. I am in the market for an itr and i found one for 10500 but it does burn a quart of oil every 800 miles or so. Would this be a good buy? could i drive it for a while by just making sure it has the right amount of oil in it? Thanks.

Ok i jus got an R a few months ago and it is killing oil. I damn near shat myself when i noticed it burned 3 quarts in 2.5k miles. Now i had an Si which would burn oil (especially in VTEC range) but never anything like this. Ive been doing some research and it looks like a (rebuild) comes to everyones mind. Now i do not have deep pockets. I plan on doing a leak down test and have already done a compression test which i will do again. Something i have noticed is the heat. The motor gets crazy hot and mainly off of freeway. Not six gear and gears are low which is what i think is culprit. Heres my question => Does anyone know good ways to lower the heat? i.e. oil coolers, radiator fans, upgrade radiator, etc and does anyone have experience with them.
Oh yea and guys u arent alone with the oil problem so hopefully together we can find some resolve.

Proper rebuilds/break ins do not have issues burning oil. My R has around 55K on it, and it's my track car, so I only beat the crap out of it. I personally run Amsoil exclusively, however there is a point where changing oil isn't going to do anything. Your best best is to do the leak down and compression test and see what those results are. Post back with the results.
As for the heat, I would double check your OEM fans are working properly. While I run different fans on track, I never had any issue with either of my previous street ITR's.
