Need air filter suggestion.

Hi there, it is time for new air filter. I wonder if anyone has recommendation on what brand and stuff.

Also, any good trick to replace the filter. I have done quite a few times on my ITR, but it was pain in the butt because of the metal chain around the hose that is so tight. I usually just muscle it in, but I wonder if you guys have a better way to do it.

Stock ITR intake I presume?

If so, just use the stock filter replacement. Drop in's aren't really worth it IMO.

As for "tips" I'm not sure what exactly you are doing, but remove the 3 screws on the top of the intake box, remove old filter/replace. Should be that easy.

Yes, it is stock intake. What brand is stock replacement? I usually just bought the FRAM one.

As for installation, I meant after open up the air box, the filter is attached to the air hose that has a metal chain very tightly. Taking it out is easy but putting it back is tough. Is there a way to loosen up the chain?

THanks for the reply!

Fram will be fine. It's just a stock paper filter.

it's been a while since I have changed the stock filter, but it shouldn't be that bad as your describing. I don't ever remember having an issue with it. But no, there is no way to release tension on that spring clamp.

The spoon filter is pretty sweet and it has stock fitment in the airbox.

I've read that the Spoon drop-in actually loses horsepower on the dyno...haven't personally seen it though. I'm using the Blitz filter. Nothing noticeably different.

if you haven't heard already - there is GREAT debate about a certain gasket that was missing from the K&N filters on 4 of the ITR's in lincoln @ solo nats this week (no flange to put the gasket on, like the stock filter, and wouldn't serve any purpose even if it was there). in spite of this, ruling was that since it had a separate part number, it was not deemed part of the air filter element, and 7 of the top 11 were DSQ'd (me included - i was co-driving someone else's car, but mine was probably "illegal", too). stay tuned on the official ruling (we are appealing on grounds that it is part of the air filter - freely changeable in stock - and that the punishment didn't fit the crime). stick with the stock air filter for now!! :D

All the DSQ driver times have been reinstated.

Does K&N filter for the ITR legal in the future Nats?
