Hello

Thanks to Doespike a number of pictures have been posted of my 97ITR, badge number 385. As some may recall, awhile ago I wrote into this forum asking for advice under the posting - HOW MUCH. In that post I said I was looking for a 1997 ITR with low mileage and untouched and wanted to know how much the vehicle would cost. However, I must be frank and admit that I had already purchased one a week or so before hand. The reason for this lie, as I explained to Doespike, is that shortly after buying the car and writing to the registry to put 385 into its database, I received a unpleasant phone call from my bank. It turned out that they thought I had paid way too much for the vehicle. To them, it should of cost no more than 8K. When I asked why they hadn't brought this up during my loan application, I wasn't given a credible answer. Needless to say I was not happy. But there was little I could do. Either I gave them evidence that the price reflected the market or the loan was in jeopardy.

My first step was to contact a man who had appraised some of my other vehicles. Unfortunately, he said that it was hard for him to give me a figure much higher than quoted by the bank because the market (at least the Canadian Market) for such vehicles is very specialized. He told me to see if I could find similar cars being sold, or contact a club specializing in this type of vehicle for their opinions. Based on this, I formulated my posting and hoped for the best. I am sorry for my duplicity, but I was trying to get some objective input. Once I got as much information together as I could, I sent it back to my bank. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that they wrote back and said everything was okay. Once I was certain the car wasn't going anywhere, I sent in my pictures to the registry.

Sincerely,

MINTY FRESH

Interesting... I suppose.

Glad you get to keep the car. Which one did you get? A CDN model, or US model?

Plans for the car?

Minty,
Glad to hear we could all help in securing your loan. Banks can be difficult, especially on limited production cars. They work mostly on NADA, KBB and Edmunds. Basically, published info. When you talk about less than 4000 production units, it makes those numbers distorted, because they are based on mass production availability, depreciation, and market place.
Congrats once again, and keep heR safe.

Welcome to ITRCA :!:
Congrats on the pickup! #385 looks great! It is funny how she was right there under your nose all these years, haha. I always wonder if there's any in hiding around Buffalo.

Hello One and All

Thank you very much for the kind words and Doespike for posting the pictures. I was going to put them heRe, but thought that the registry might be a better place.

And yes, it is one of the 160 (or so) Canadian (CDN) 1997 Rs. And from my research, over twenty of the advertisements I have found of this CDN model are not in very good condition. This made making my case to the banks a little rough. Personally, I have seen three in the city I live in that appear to be 97s but are very sad. However, I did see another that that was only slightly modified and in good condition.

Hello

Just a little over 59300 kilometers (37K miles). Right after purchasing the car, I brought it to a toyota specialist who also love Hondas. They did a complete, and I mean complete check of everything. Due to a minor water leak the water pump was replaced ( I have the original ) as well as an unworn timing belt (I have that as well). It is current up on jacks and in a very, very secure garage.
