All of my PC power in the house is sooo old, this will be the first device for me with USB 2.0!!! LOL

Strongest thing in the house I gotz is a 1.1GHz with 384M of RAM and 32M video memory.

Looks good to me. Big plus that that mb has HDMI out built in. Not sure how great the built in video on it is, but you could always add a vid card if you wish down the road.

Also, some ATI chipped video cards push sound on their HDMI connections along with audio. If you are going to connect to a TV and want picture and sound, look for one of these cards.

I just built a HTPC with similar specs, mobo with HDMI, cept AMD 3 core, 4G, blue ray optical drive, 30Gsolid state + 1T storage drive, 400W corsair, and a Cooler master 2... spent ~700. Only thing i would suggest is BD vs DVD optical drive.

Running win7 64 Ultimate. Quiet and quick. MiniDinovo + TV tuner card down the road.

lol not. 2k7 takes some getting used to, but it's a lot easier/faster once you get used to it, for most functions anyways.

Office 2003 works on Win 7, but I'm not sure I tried it on a 64bit win 7 machine (the few we have running office 2003 are running win 7 32 bit for other compatibility issues).

That bundle looks decent.

disagree... even keyboard shortcuts are more annoying since the highlighted letters are all over the place instead of a nice drop down menu. I really have no desire to sit there, and re-figure out the UI after knowing where everything has been for the past couple decades. Ribbon... fine, to each his own.... but just make it able to do both. 07 sucks balls bad IMO and I'll run 2003 or open office as opposed to '07 or '10.

The ribbon is here to stay with Microsoft. I will say that I do like office 2010 better than 2007.

you'd have a hard time beating up either one on day to day stuff, but for an extra $70 it couldn't hurt.

From what he said he would be using it for, those two extra cores will just sit idle, suck up power and produce extra heat.

Sorry Yack, but you didn't need to spend that money.

I think it was a good investment for his current and future needs. He now has plenty of options with all that processing power. I'm also a big fan of the new Intel Ix processors.

I use an overclocked I7 here to browse the web. It also runs at 95% avg CPU utilization generating results for world community grid. I think it's around 1,900 days worth of computing since Oct 5th 2009. I don't even notice the CPU utilization, even transcoding 1080p content doesn't slow down the machine a bit with WCG going full blast. CPU temps are 70 degree cel all day long.

Oh well, free gigs on easynews, so it's worth it
