Any other images? Possibly one of the block? Transmission stamp? The only one I see is the head in your original image.

Yup, just head stamp.

IIRC, the left most is the year, 96. So it "could" be a 96 spec JDM ITR.

If you look at the transmission, there is a stamp on it in ink, not a metal stamp. That will let us know what trans is in it.

Also, on the head you should see markings that say PR3-x where X can be 1, 2, 3, or 4.

On the left, under those blue Radiator hoses is where the stamp should be.

It wont have a metal tag just ink and it wears off often.

I would say try and post up better pics of the motor and stampings on the head and of the intake mani.

I would tend to say it's genuine.

It's a PR3-x head (but this can be a B16 head)

Has the correct Intake Manifold (again, B16 looks similar)

I can't tell if there is green paint on the head near the Vtec solenoid/Dizzy.

Last thing would be specifics on the trans, and it's stamp. Did the car come with that motor in it, or was this a swap your puchased? If swap, was trans included or separate?

The engine came with the car.
So there's chance that it is a b16 160bhp rather than a 200bhp b18c ?!
Any other way to tell? (apart from taking it to a rolling road lol). could it be tell by taking off the red head cover?

In this picture:

There is a stamp on the block to the left of the header but right of the trans. It should have a metal stamp on it. What does it say?

its gonna say B18C... im pretty sure from a couple of those pics you can see its a tall block, not a shorter deck block like a B16A...

i would suggest doing a compression/leakdown test if performance is lacking...

Isnt that a 98 spec header? OP says its a 96 spec itr. So maybe not original motor that came with the car.

If... B18c AND that IM, then ITR motor.

GS-R doesn't have that intake on it. And you can't bolt an ITR mani onto a GSR head.

header is an easy part to swap. and very common to swap to a 98+ header...

also note that amount of dirt/grime all over that car. id bet that motor has been there for a while (if ever). nothing big really looks cleaner like its been swapped with different parts (i know i clean my shit before i put it on, at least a little).

if its lacking power i would start by doing a compression test, checking the plugs/cap/rotor and making sure they are still in good working order.

bingo! it says B18C for the upper row and the number on the buttom row, so it's a ITR?

Heads can be swapped as well, but it looks to be like the original based on all the dirt and grime. Do JDM transmissions have the sticker with a bar code stating what trans it is as well, underneath the rad hoses close to where the clutch line is?

Yes, the JDM transmissions will also have an ink stamp on them. It's not the same as the USD JH4 LSD though. I think it's N3E or something like that.

i have a 97 JDM ITR trans. and i have to stare at it for like 2 mins to see the faint ink stamp that was once there... same goes for the green ink thing. cars get old and get washed. that shit just goes away.

in your second photo look between the two blue hoses you can just make out the black ink where it says "LSD" That's the stamp and the other 3 letter stamp should be right there with it.
