A lot of people having trans/clutch/synchro probs.

It seems that there are quite a few posts on synchro grind, can't get it in gear, etc.
I had a similiar problem. 5th gear synchro grind, and tougher shifting than normal. I put a clutch (cm stage 3) in last summer, and when I did, I made 2 mistakes.
1) used non-Honda trans fluid
2) followed the owner's manual for capacity I think it was like 2.1 liters
This past weekend I finally drained the synthetic oil I had in the trans and replaced it with 3 quarts of Honda fluid. To my utter shock, there is absolutely no sign of 5th gear synchro grind, and shifting in general is absolutely spectacular!!
I caught the problem early, I only went about a 1000 miles with the grind, and I would drop the rpm to shift into 5th to prevent the grind. I am sure that had I waited, this remedy would probably not have helped, but you never know! I highly recommend using stock Honda fluid in the trans - forget all the hype, and just do the right thing!!

Great post, Jan! I was thinking about switching my fluid to BG Synchroshift but I think I'll be sticking with the Honda fluid now

Now for a real stupid question from a Canadian who is more accustomed to metric units. How many quarts is a liter?
Precisely 3 quarts=how many litres?
Thanks for your post. I have been having tranny problems that's been really bothering me.

1 liter = 33.8 ounces so a little over 2 quarts per liter.

Kabob, SON! Not quite. 1 quart is just under 1 liter. (.946)

yeah, and either way, when pouring tranny fluid, you should have the top plug open any way to drain any access, so it should matter. just pour till it comes out....
Later,
Aj

I am glad to hear I am not the only one with this problem.
One thing I did a bit different was to use Lucas Transmission Fluid additive. You can add it to your Favorite MTF or ATF. this stuff is Soooo good I didn't use Honda MTF (just didn't know about it) so I used a little Lucas and the rest (up to 2.3 quarts) of 10w30 (as per haynes manual)
Anyway at first this helped the problem and the Tranny was quiet, BUT after the Tranny heated up the noise returned
After reading a post Here saying that 3 quarts was a better amount I added some more Lucas via the Speed Sensor hole on the top of the tranny. Low and Behold... I drove the car 300 miles running about 80-100 Mph and the Tranny is just as quiet as it was when it was cold. The tranny pulls different as well like it grabs better.

i kind of ahve a similar problem, when im going from second to third in normal driving i have no problem, but if the rpm's are above 6000 i get a lil grind when i put it in gear. there is no problem puting it in gear but if i do go above 6000 rpm i have to let them drop to below that point.
the car is under warrenty so im going to go the dealer to get them to take care of it ( the cars like a month and a half old), or is this something that i can take care of myself.
thanks in advance

Definitely take it in if it's under warranty. There's nothing better than free synchros, or any other free thing for that matter.
