I just got a DC JDM Type R Header and I am considering running without a Cat. (I live in NH, no emissions here) I am wondering I need to do to accomodate my stock exhaust. what size pipes or adapters? Have any of you noticed a big difference running without a cat? Also is it a lot louder?

I want to get an exhaust system. But want something that looks good and sounds good (NOT RICEY) Any reccomendations?

Thanks

collector is 2 1/2 inch so you gonna need cat or test pipe to match up...but you ll throw an check engine light unless you are running obd1....ecu with harness..

that was another question of mine, If I would have a problem with the check engine light. You are saying I will need an ecu adapter and a test pipe. Or I will be tripping engine lights? Are you running without a cat?

a friend of mine i know very well ihad a test pipe ..i i mean he plugged ( hahaah) in the o2 sensor into test pipe but the one in car was plugged in and place under front mat....the cel would come on every so often...but sitting in traffic the car stinks and the back part of your bumper near exhaust gets dirty very quick.... i went to a chipped p28 with a harness for this year, dont want to get stopped for not having a cat on the street....will use on track only...

who is this the police? EPA?

Removing a catalyst is illegal and I would never condone it. Make sure you don't read any of my posts because there wouldn't be anything about catalysts in there. Removing the catalyst might result in dangerous horsepower, and it may be just too much to handle. If you are pregnant you should not put your lips around my tailpipe while I press the pedal to the floor.

This has been a public service announcement.

if i remove my cat with a test pipe. will i send the CAT-LESS message to the cops when they check on me so i get to press on the pedal slowly for them to check on my exhaust (not cuz i reved it hard in front of them, that would be too obvious) or they might think i only have a loud exhaust, if ever i get arrested? cuz the fine here is 30000$can lol

I think cats are great for the ignorant masses, but for us gearheads they can be a hinderance. As long as the government uses R12 freon by the thousands of pounds per day to clean aircraft, they can stay the fuck off my ass. Oh, sorry about my fucking language!

Now, admitedly, I run outrageously high compression for a street car, so the gains are definitely more noticably than a stock compression ITR, but I got like 9whp off a test pipe in my car when I switched. I live in FL so we don't have emissions here either. The only real down sides to not having a cat, is cleaning your bumper more often, which, who cares, and if you're running a stock exhaust still, it's gonna be a little raspy. Other than that, the benefits outweigh the down sides.

As far as the check engine light, other than being obnoxious, you can run with it on, and it won't affect anything, as long as your front O2 sensor is still working. The only reason the rear one is there, is to tell you if your cat isn't working. It's more teasing you than anything. Your car won't run in limp mode unless there is something seriously wrong with it. Depends on whether you can deal with the annoying yellow light in the corner of your cluster. That and the possibility that something else may go wrong, and you won't know it cause your check engine light is already on.

Any way, I'd ditch it, jmo

hahahaha, tru, maybe, but if you're worried about smell over speed, just run 110 all the time, it smells mad good, well for gas any way......

If that sounds like a good idea to anyone, you really need to be sharing your disposable income with the rest of us.....

haha, Later,

Ive got a DC header, Apex N1 exhaust, and a testpipe...DAMN is it loud. I would not reccomend this settup if you drive your car a lot like i do. I am thinking about putting the cat back in as i dont think the hp gains are worth the noise...does anybody know of a high flow cat that would fit with my set up...carsound maybe. thanks guys.

how much does a high flow cat sell for, and how cheap can anyone here get a nice 2.5 inch test pipe for? im considering putting my header/test pipe set up for really fun week ends and putting the stock header/cat back on like 2 weeks later, now and then, that couldnt be that long... right?

Hybrid Garage (GREAT CUSTMER SERVICE) sells the Carsound custom cats for around $130. Need to ask them directly, might be less.

AIM = HybridGarage

test pipe goes for $75 from SMSP
