What about final gear ratio? I know that it improves torque but again is it hard to install?

Is today your day to start threads? LOL...

USDM = 4.40

JDM = 4.79

ATS = 4.92

Those are the most popular choices. Spoon can customise a final drive for you, if you want, but it's more expensive than the other choices.

The most popular choice is the JDM drive, but the ATS ratio does enjoy an avid following.

Don't change fourth and fifth gears if you're changing the final drive, because, although you will reduce the RPM on the highway, you are substantially negating the advantage of the final drive changes you've made.

If I'm not mistaken the 4.9 final that ATS makes is only for the B16 tranny, and not for ours. Not sure though, you may want to call for applications. Also, I think ATS in addition to Honda also makes a 4.7 final for our cars??? You could also get the ATS 3-4-5 gears, which I would actually recomend, as our cars already have pretty good 1st and 2nd gears. I guess it's just a matter of what and where you're using them. With a much shorter final drive, you'll be shifting much more, or faster I should say, so if you're planning on doing some sort of forced induction later on, it's not a great idea...Also, at some tracks local to me, Miami Homestead in particular, with a shorter final drive, I find my self down shifting in places where ordinarily I wouldn't...All a matter of personal prefference and application purpose

Well, either way, this is not something you should attempt to install yourself. Especially if you don't have a gear puller, a snap ring pliers, and a very good know how of honda trannys. Not only is it a bear to take out and put back your tranny, it's far worse to disassemble it and reassemble it. It's a nice mod if you're going into your tranny already for like a bad synchro or something, but otherwise will cost you probably close to a grand in labor at Acura assuming they'll even do it.

I have a 4.929 ATS FD in my R and it works great and even had it installed for free. :)

Try contacting Jack@p1auto.com to get the part and about installation.

That's kool, I think the Dave R&D motorsports told me they only had a listing for the B16 tranny, but perhaps he was looking at the wrong catalogue or something????

Just out of curiosity what does your car top out at with that 4.9 final drive??? Also, did it come with the first gear as well????

Dave @ R&D should know better he slels ATS FD's all the time to R owners.

Jack At P1Auto can get them and also has tons more experience installing them.

Supposedly it tops out at 137 MPH. Not tested it. The kit pricing you see does include a JDM OEM 1st gear and various pieces needed to make it work on a USDM tranny. Yasu at http://www.A-T-S-USA.com is a good guy, Expo sponsor/Instructor, and can answer questions straight from the horses mouth too.

Sweet, thanks bro...I think when I called about the final drive gear, he also looked up the 3-4-5 gears and a 4.7 final drive, perhaps he confused me asking about a 4.7 and a 4.9???

Any way, thanks Trey,
