I compete in the following classes with the following cars:

DS - '01 BMW 330Ci
SM - '00 ITR or '97 M

What class do you compete in and with which car?

I only realized yesterday that SM does not allow forced induction cars over 3.0L.

Damn.

Maybe rather than converting my 3.2 to OBD-I, I'll pick up a 3.0L engine that is sitting at a local shop. Then I can boost that and run in SM. =)

I run my 98 ITR in Street Mod.

The modification holding me there instead of STX is my ATS Final Drive. BUt I really like the final drive so i can live with it.

I run in STX. I hope that thread about the Evo going to STX class is inaccurate!

STX. I do much better in borrowed cars, though :)

And about the EVO going to STX. It was bogus. You can thank Tom Hoppe for intentionally providing that misinformation on the ST mailing list.

C Street Prepared (due to header, rear strut tower bar, icebox, and MSD)

soon to be D stock when stock parts go back on. The PAX factor is tooo high for a moded R.

Except for the MSD you're STX legal (assuming you're not also on R-compound tires)

STS, since it's got a good PAX adjustment. I only run with a catback and lightweight rims w/ Falken Azenis.

Anybody know where a JDM OE 4-1 header and hi-flo cat will put me?

ITR's cannot run in STS due to their LSD.

Really? I was never told that I couldn't at any of the AutoX events I've participated in. I thought the rules stated that you cannot run STS if you were using an aftermarket LSD and were fine to run with an LSD in STS so long as it was a stock part.

Yes, Really! You wouldn't make it to grid at a National Event before being protested. LSD's other than viscous types (not helical like the R's) are specifically disallowed in STS regardless of whether they came stock or not.
And generally it's your responsibilty to know where to class your car. If you don't know ask, if your competitors can't help you, then do some research with a rule book and find out. Not that it matters that much for a local event, but it can be problematic if you sign up for a larger event under the wrong assumptions because you never did your research.

btw-here's the URL for the ST rules http://mouton.best.vwh.net/sccasolo/Rul ... uring.html
Paragraph 2 refers to what LSDs are allowed and not allowed.

lol, I guess I'll run in D-Stock or STX, then :P

I have a Tanabe 2.5" catback as my only mod although I will be going with a JDM 4-1 header and a test pipe or Carsound cat soon (awaiting the Carsound cat). Can I still run STX with those mods?

EDIT: n/m, I just flipped through the rules and yeah, I can still run STX so long as it's a hi-flo cat.

And the header will keep you out of DS.

Once you put that header on, you won't wanna run stock class anymore ;) It's too much HP to give up to go back to that awful stock manifold & downpipe! Plus no more DOT Competition tires to buy and change at every event. Aaahhhh!!!!

Well I knew that about the header putting me out of DS... not that they would know since I have the heatshields with my header :P

I think you'd get away with it at local events, but you'd likely be protested in DS at some of the higher level national events, and get disqualified as a result. Even if someone doesn't notice it during impound, the word gets around and pretty soon it'll catch up to you (people love to talk).

From the sounds of it, I'd probably enjoy running down the STX road and prep your car for that.

Good luck,
Michael.
