Sad sight to see. There is almost no way to find out what number you have. Just name her ITR#0000 if you want. You can buy those badges from Acura.

Take a look at the motor number and use that, there is no way to actually retreive the number from the dealer or Honda (many have tried). Some ITRs in the early year say that their motor number is or is very close to the badge number.

So if you are able to get the motor number, try to ask around to see if anyone has that number- if nobody has it its yours...

I am going to take a wild guess here and say that "stripped of the drive-train" means the engine is gone and he will not be able to look at the engine number(unless you have the original window sticker?)

I would say that you can safely narrow it down somewhere between 3 and 500(minus #241)...for you guys that saw the old registry, what was the highest US 97 number?

I have engine number B18C5-4300241 and my badge does indeed say 241.

So what do you plan on doing with the 97? Rebuild it or track it? Looks pretty light :D

engine number has nothing to do with the badge number.

Then how do you explain all of the 97s having the same engine number and badge number? Well, are there any 97s out there that the original engine does not match their badge number?

How do engine numbers compare in 98? I would imagine that the engine number is ahead of the badge number by 500(or whatever the number of 97 ITRs in North America).

How many 99s were shipped to Canada?

I could be wrong, but it would still be interesting to see what people's engine numbers are for 98, 99, 00, and 01. I bet that they all add up...is the US and Canada the only countries to get a B18C5? Does Honda make extra/replacement engines and they break up the number sequence?

It would be cool to compare engine, badge numbers, and year if anybody wants to pitch in!

Read the post at honda tech. those that posted their engine # were within 3-4 #'s of their car #.

Read the post again. There were a few but not all. So that basically means nothing.

I don't think it really tells you anything when they are "close to the number" anyway but they were (95% of them ) very close to their #. Best link ton date for an otherwise severe lack of info.

Looks way better. But for some reason...just doesn't seem the same anymore. No offense. Very good work.

yeah i know it will never be the same but for me it will do 8) if you took it too a shop to have it worked on with a new panel they would do the same thing.. just lil cleaner on the spot welds...

So are you going to seam weld that sucker?

Posted: December 10th, 2002, 8:02 am
by ITR97-143
yup just a lil cut and paste job.. of course im going to be useing a backing plate that will help with the welding and it will make it just as Strong if not stronger at the ends where im pasting it into so the panel will not break seams or buckle under stress. 8) when i get done with the seams i will make sure i take picks of it all :) and after i get done painting it you will never know that this R had a skin replacement..
