You think your R is slow Typeruz?

In regards to your question, a stock lude shouldn't beat your R in any respect. I have a video of a stock R vs. a stock Prelude and the R leaves it in tears, not sure how to post it though. [/url]

If your talking about racing in a straight line then it's a pretty close race between the two. But if you're talking about real racing, like on a road course or a auto-X then it's a different story.

drag race between the 2...since they are very close, it will come down to who can launch and shift better.

road race....type r hands down assuming both drivers are equally skilled

drag race or circuit race theres no way in hell a prelude should even be able to touch you in a R. If you're losing in a R to a prelude, you shouldn't have baughten the R cause you need to learn how to drive first. If you can't drive you'll be wasting the valve and performance of the R... The R was designed to be driven hard where it'll get a chance to perform like it should. :?

ummmmmmm, thanks for that last post.

for your info, i can drive. and i do know how to "value" my R.

when comparing against the prelude (my brothers car), we tested all senarios....rolling start, secong gear pull, from vtec, from below vtec, switching drivers, etc, etc, etc, etc.....and the prelude consistently pulled away. not by much, but enough.

so, the reason i brought this is up, is b/c i think something is wrong with my car. it's been getting really bad gas mileage lately, and i think this has something to do with itas well.

you may have a bad 02 sensor, or at least one going bye bye that is causing the ECU to dump excessive fuel, causing you to run richer than you should. Have you thrown any CEL's? You also might want to check out where your getting gas from, maybe you've been getting screwed at the pump, I fill up at the same station every time I possibly can, you would be amazed what bad gas can do. If your ECU detects knock it will throw timing and that will kill performance. You have not stated any theories or potential problem areas you think it might be, have you changed anything on your car? Is your car stock? If not what mods? Is all the service up to date? I'm willing to bet it's bad gas or an 02 sensor but without specific details, IE: power falls off towards redline, I hear knock, etc, it's really hard to speculate what could be wrong with it.....

well, the car's stock for the most part. it does have an AEM fuel rail from the previous owner, but that's it. as for the power, it accelerates rather smoothly, and goes into vtec smoothly. it just doesn't feel all that strong.

The Prelude is gonna "feel" faster because it has more low end torque I believe, it is 2.2 liters. The beauty of the R is that it has seemless power, it's quick but you don't realize how quick. Are you sure your shifting it properly? I hate to go back to driver but I gotta ask. If you are drag racing at the track you should shift at fuel cutoff, this will drop it back into the Vtec range. If your not shifting it at redline your losing power and that's why your getting beat by your brothers Lude. Did you just get the ITR? It took me a while to get used to driving mine with such a high redline and everything.

Other than shifting and driving here we go....

Well I don't think the fuel rail would cause it to run rich, I would suggest adding some 104 octane boost to the tank of gas that's in there, if it feels like it helps chances are you got shitty gas, switch stations. If that doesn't work I would say the 02 sensor is tired, or maybe the fuel filter needs changed. It is really hit or miss if your not getting a CEL.

hmmmmm,

thanks for the input. actually, i changed the fuel filter recently, along with the spark plugs. i still have some time on the warranty and need to finally take it into the stealership. unfortunately, mine sucks, so i have to find another one in the area.

could it be the cat? if so, what other signs would be there??

thanks!

valve adjustment. your valves mite be off and even couple thou off can make a big differance. also check your oil make sure its full cuz vtec relies on oil pressure to kick in.

Hmmm Sounds like you are having a problem with your Car some how. I'd go to the Fuel rail. Could be dumping more fule than what is needed and killing the spark. Are you getting lots of Carbon out of the Tail Pipe.
There was a Test in one of those Car and Driver Magazines. Type R Vs Type SH Basically the R out classed the SH. Acceleration the SH was stronger off the line but that was about it. Not saying that the SH is a Crap car but the R was just built for stuff like this. The R is Lighter and has more HP and the R has the LSD tranny. Stiffer Chasis.
Bottom Line is that in a Drag race if you skills are eual then you should be able to walk the Lude Type R should be a mid to High 14 sec Car Out of the BOX.
On the Course well lets not even go there it is not a fair comparrison in my opinion

exactly... I wasn't bashing your driving skills on my above post, I was just saying that the Lude shouldn't beat you at all... I would even say not off the line either... Sounds like you need to get your car looked at... good luck.

that's cool man, no beef here.

in regards to the valves not being adjusted....how would the car act if the valves weren't adjusted???

wondering b/c i have been getting a weird "chat-chat-chat-chat" sound from my engine for the past few months. it's most easily heard in second gear, and is only heard when at full throttle above 7000 rpms or so until i switch gears or let off the gas. it's high pitched, and is very fast....just as fast as the valve sounds. and i'm not sure if it's mental, but i think i feel it in the steering wheel as well. been meaning to let the dealer know about that too, but a buddy mechanic of mine said it's probably a loose heat shield. and nothing "bad" has happened yet. i know, i know i better figure it out.

but, do any of you think this could some how have something to do with my poor gas mileage and poor performance??

thanks.

Since when does the R have more hp?!? Not at the crank and not at the wheels....ligter and faster out the box? Yes; I'd have to agree.....

i have to agree with Hype R prelude has 200 hp, R has 195 but if your talking about who has the most HP per liter then you would be rite.

if u have to much valve lash it can decrease your performance, cuz the intake/ exhaust valve might not be able to open enough or open fast enough, also if u dont get it adjusted u can burn the valves and that would leak to leaking.

I owned a 97 prelude when i bought my R. I had them both and ran them. The prelude got a small jump on the R, but once the R hits third, the R really pulls hard on it and it's over.

I raced my friends SH with my R at the track, with the same mods just intake and exhaust. At first he took a slight jump but once I hit second gear I was gone. I beat him by like 2 car length. So I say that something must be wrong with your car also, cause I dont see why he would beat you.
