What gains can you expect from a J's Intake on a bone stock R?? Also, is it as good as people say?? I'm not a big fan of the AEM CAI and don't have enough cash for a mugen......any suggestions are appreciated.

I would definately recommend it for throttle response and good midrange power.

If you are a drag race type person, I would not recommend it.

my friend has the J intake in his R. he loves it because its better throttle respone and midrange power, so its good for normal driving. aem is little low end, and more top end power, still good but u have to be up up in the power band to acess the power.

Why's it no good for drag racing, not that I'm really big into it, just wondering?

So.................two people on this entire board own J's Intakes???? Hard to believe, I'm looking for some serious feedback, if you have one or have experience w/ one, please respond!

Personally I have an Icebox. :P

I was surprised, however, that when one of my mechanics tested the J's Racing intake on a racing ITR that it did give solid gains over other intakes.

Whether or not cold air intakes would exceed the J's Racing's improvements when they're actually getting high speed, cold air, I don't know. But it did show solid gains on the dyno over the other intakes.

There are also cheap plastic copies of the J's Racing intake that make it quite affordable. Not so affordable that I'd dump the Icebox for it, but I would think about it if I were shopping for an intake for the first time.

Thanks for the input, now after I pulled a few teeth, I can make the decision and go ahead and get a J's. As for people not answering question's, I definately agree with you. I find that if more feedback were given on IMPORTANT topics such as this, and less time on stupid shit, like whether or not 17's look good on an R, I would spend a lot less time asking people ?'s over at HT. Thanks Again

It's not good for drag beacuse sitting at the tree, it sucks in a ton of hot air when are you getting ready to go. Best on the road course where the car is moving.

It's a good intake, good gains.

The only intake that completely outsines all others is the Mugen Intake.

Although the Mugen is top of the line, the price and fact that you have to bend, or remove A/C lines outweighs the benefits. I think I'll stick w/ a J's for now. From what I've heard they're light years better than an AEM. Plus they're short ram, so I don't have to worry about hydrolock :D

I think light years is a bit over stating thigs. You probably won't see any more peak power and if you make more power between 4000 and 6000 roms that is great but not practical for actual performance. You will see that power gain one time during a race and that is in first gear from 0-20 mpoh where less power might help traction.

I am not against the J's intake as an option just tossing out other things to think about. We tweak and tweak but honestly you can buy what you like the look or sound of if you stick with the big names and see no apprciable power differences. Some will claim differentl;y but take a large average and not one persons word.

I personally have the Icebox cause it makes the same power when I tested it, it stealthy looking and is QUIET which is the most important part. Nothing worse than the AEM noise.

If it is QUANTITY of comments you want then by all mean go to H-T but personally I would like QUALITY responses such as you got here.

Why you would need 30-40 people to tell you its good power upgrade i have no clue. Actually you're only missing the "Fluff" you get 40 people commenting on your question and MAYBE 5 are going to have something to do with the question and the other 35 will be "It looks ugly." or "Overrated" something stupid like that. Be happy that you actually got decent comments.
My comment on the Intake is that it is a good improvement over LOTs of other intake systems
Carbon Fiber Design works well to INSULATE the air in the Chamber. The Design acts as a funnel to insure even in the BENDS the tube is filled with AIR. The Air is accelerated at the mouth due to a kind of Venturi effect. The ONLY thing I would suggest that is a cold air induction box be incorporated.
Another point to make is that CAI can't be effectively tested on a DYNO and Neither can an Short Ram due to the fact that the FAN used to keep the engine cool is not Similating the AIR flow at Highway or race track speeds. Just something to keep in mind.

In reply to your comment about people giving me "fluff", I understand your point. Although, you don't understand that it took two seperate threads for me to get even one answer. I don't want 300 comments that all sound the same, yet I would appreciate a comment period. Otherwise, thanks for your input about the intakes, I'll keep that in mind[/quote]
