exhaust questions/suggestions

I have an ITR 00'. Guess il start off with my only mod right now which is a custom CAI.
From reading through the articles it seems like a 2.36-2.5inch exhaust straight through or twin pass muffler would suit my needs. Im staying all N/A with boltons.
Ive been looking at the tanabe racing medialion, and maybe the apexi world sport. My buddy has that on his LS and its pretty damn quiet but it has a chambered design.
Gains? Well im not sure. Since i am running a b18c5 wouldnt i want it in my current powerband? (mid-top end)
Um only other thing i can think of is the sound. I understand( i think) that the straight through exhausts are a bit louder. I dont want something that sounds like a weed eater. Most of all im really just looking for something with the best gains. Not sure about price range, im still looking.

You might want to look into getting a custom exhaust system. I did it mainly because I had to go up to a 2.5". The stock ITR exhaust has two resonators in addition to the muffler. If you put on a system with a straight through muffler and no resonators it will be considerably louder. I also wanted to remove the cat so I was looking at a big decible increase. What I did was replace the cat with a 18" glasspack muffler (some people call them resonators, but they are different). It only cost about $25. Then I had a custom system put together with two resonators just like the stock system except a full 2.5" all they way through. Even with a straight through magnaflow muffler it wasn't much louder then stock, but it flowed A LOT better. I shopped on the classifieds here and at honda-tech. I was lucky to find some of the parts used, so it didn't really cost me an outragous amount. I just used aluminized steel because I didn't care what something hanging under my car looked like, and it will last just as long. In fact I didn't want anything conspicuous. No big shiny muffler or tip for me, and not a lot of annoying buzz. Mandrel bent pipes are best, but I don't think crush bending really constricts flow that much.

I just replaced my Stock Exhaust with a Spoon N1 with Custom B pipe. NO RESONATOR... Well IT is WAY louder than Stock and a bit Louder than if I had gone with a resonator. I will be adding a resonator SOON. Although I use the Sub silencer the system still can use the benifit of a resonator.. As for FLOW WOW is what I have to say you can immediately feel the better flow in the pedal feel if you can believe that. No Dyno results cause the car is not finished

My buddy was going to have one done custom for me but he doesnt have access to a type r (he is in TX i am in PA). He said the powder coat (some form of corosion control) alone cost about 250$.
I also guess that which ever exhaust i decide on i would probably want at least one reasonator. From what i understand though most of the exhausts give similar gains, 3-5whp, unless i am totally wrong. /shrug

I don't think that the powder coat is necessary. $250 is a lot to add to an exhaust system. That is more than I paid for my 2.5" Kamikaze header (used but in perfect working condition).
The stock ITR exhaust system is more free flowing than most and you only have 160 WHP to begin with, so a catback won't make that much of a difference. However when you modify the engine internals or use forced induction an exhaust system will make a much bigger difference. By exhaust system I mean the header, cat, and catback. A catback alone doesn't add much power to a stock engine.

Hmmm.
This dyno is of an ITR with just a JDM OEM header, Carsound Cat and SMSP 2.5" cat back exhaust. This ITR previously dyno'd 158 HP on a Dynojet, before the additions.
I think you
can get quite a bit more additional power out of bolt ons if you are careful.
The exhaust was an SMSP 2.5" cat back. You can reach Dave Stadulis of SMSP at 540-287-6384.
