how do you realy know?

how can you realy tell if you got a type r head? i know the type r head has the same casting number as a b16 (pr3), but the type r head is called
a p73. can you only tell if you pull the head off and look at the valves? its cause i put toda cams in the head and i'm don't know if he switched heads on me.

Well if it's a newer ITR head casting it'll be PR3-4, other than that, I dont really remember. I think some of the older ones had different head casting suffixes. Another thing you can look for is that the frst two numbers on the head in those little cirlce looking thing should be about the year of your car, possibly minus one, so if you have an 01' it should read 0|1 or 0|0 depending on the production date, if it says like 9|8, and yours is an 01', you know he swaped you. Ussualy it's more hassle then it's worth, and the parts that come in the head are valuable, and not so much the bear head by itself. Most mechanics, unless really really shady wouldn't go through the hassle to find a head to reaplce yours with.

I believe they all have a head stamp "PR3-X" which X is any number...not 100% sure though.
I know for sure that the '01 has PR3-4.
