Questions on Mounting 4-point harness

Post by GMan_Too »

Can anyone suggest the best way to mount/attach the shoulder harnesses on a stock Type-R?

Are 4-point belts DOT legal?

Thanks,

4 POINT

Post by bbqman »

I'm assuming you don't have a roll cage nor roll bar.
In this situation, a 4 point is ineffective and dangerous. Some clubs don't even allow it without a hoop.
The reason why this is dangerous is simple. If you do roll over, the top of the car could cave in and your head/neck are restrained in the upright position, thus...well you know...snap.
If the goal is to immobilize the body for auto-x and lapping, try the Honda 3 point built in system.

It's easy....strap yourself in the car like normal...pull all the excess slack from the belt( suck in your gut) then slide the belt under your left arm(to remove the most slack) and give a quick snap to lock it in place.
Once you release your breath and gut, the tension will hold it in the locked and snug position...et voila a 3 point harness that works and is safe.

But to answer your question fully.....most provinces and states make harnesses illegal, but check to make sure.

And with a proper cross bar behing your seat, on the roll bar, it is a snap to put the belts.

BTW, if you attach your belts anyways, at a point behind the rear seats ie child restraints etc, you should know that a major frontal impact can create a major load on your spine as the belts pull in the downward direction.

We design and built roll cages in our shop for our regional, SVWC and customer cars.
