I run my R with Kuhmo 712's. There good tires for the $ but I can't get them to hook up without my car feeling like its going to self destruct(mad wheel hop). I've run 14.6 with a 2.2 60' and I know I could do better. I have ES motor mount inserts and they help a bit, but I was just wondering if there are any other street tires that hook up better? If I were to get slicks what size and make(s) will fit a stock 15" rim? Don't you guys who run slicks break shit? Thanks

To solve your wheel hopping problem, raise the rpm's that you launch at. Don't know how high you launch on your street tires (kumho's) though I launch around 5500 sometimes a tad higher depending on the track conditions. (Falken Azenis 205x50-15's at 17psi are my street tires)

Concerning drag slicks, I personally use a Mickey Thompson 22x8x15 and run them at 10psi (before burnout) and try to keep them at 12psi throughout my event. I personally think these are the best size slicks to use on the ITR or pretty much anything between 150-225whp... I prolly made roughly 80-100 passes this past year overall (street tires and slicks combined) and when using the slicks I launch at 7800rpms each time (use of hondata launch control). I broke one axel this year (had street tires on at the time-I use OEM axels btw) and it was cause I didn't launch high enough at the time... Ended up breaking the right passanger side axel (usually the right axel breaks instead of the left... dunno why). After seeing and experiancing drag racing now for a while, I usually buy a extra right passenger side axel at the beginning of the season and have it with me every time I go to the track just for safe sake in case an axel breaks. (actually I know a parts shop owner and I've explained to them that I drag race, and if they'd sorta sponcer me a axel... tell them you'd put there name sticker on your car at the track as adverticement.. and if you break the axel you'll pay for it, if not, you'll return it in the unopened box at the end of the season... I've worked this out with a local shop so it helps to have the extra axel there if needed.)

Also, just my personal opinion when it comes to axels... you don't want to get something too strong for your car... breaking axels beleive it or not is a good thing, cause it the axels don't break then you're lible to break your transmission... $70 axels are a lot cheaper than hundreds of dollars for a transmission. Stock OEM axels (not the remanufactered ones) are very strong and will hold up to I believe 400whp. I ran OEM axels on my 400+ hp B20VTEC turbo motor, my buddy runs OEM axels on his 300+ GSR Turbo, etc... Just something to think about...

no slicks will fit the stock ITR wheels. they are too skinny from what I understand. I like the M&H 23.5x7.5x15 slicks(looking into a set now). I pulled 2.1 60fts on falken ze-512s with 22psi in them when I was all motor. on drag radials now that I am boosted I pull 2.1-2.2 60's a good bit.

as for breaking axles- when you are doin the burnout on slicks DO NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL!!! also, stock axles hold up better on cars that are not lowered because of the angle the axle is at. lowering=change axle angle=not at strong. I know most of the fast guys from NOVA to jersey and back out to western PA use stock axles and usually make it through a season on a set. these are 10 second street cars making over 500whp so if you drive right your axles will hold up.

Yoko AVS would hook up better

or you could be a big baller and get Yokohama A032s go with 205/50s on the front

Thanks guys, Next time I go to the track I'm gonna try to keep the revs at 6K and feather it out of the hole. I did find that the lower the launch, the more and worse the wheel hop(dipstick flying out). The slicks are a possibility, but I'm gonna try to hit 2.1's with the kuhmos first. Sh!t! I think I should chill,.. Its December, the snow is falling(Canada), my tranny is peeked(another post) and I got no $ for other parts or to fix my tranny. Sorry everyone. Im a big idiot!

Correction, a Mickey Thompson 22x8x15 will fit on a ITR wheel if thats your drag wheel of choice. I currently have these slicks mounted on a normal 15x6 black honda steelie and they worked out find.




Also, Falken Azenis work pretty good at the track at 17psi and they're reletively cheap. I average 2.0-2.1 sixty-foots on these tires.

thanks for the info eric. also I found out the 23.5x7.5x15 will fit on a 6" wheel too. the problem is I need a taller tire. I think I am goin 24.5x8.5x15 on a set of 7" wide rotas

That'll work out good. Honostly I'm guessing that the 24.5x8.5x15 would prolly be ok on the same honda steelie I'm running... 15x7 rim would definately work... How much power are you making? You don't wanna go too big on the tire size cause then you'll be more prone to breaking things.

I talked to john from M&H and he said I need 7" wheel for those. I am looking at 350-375whp once the slicks are on with pump gas. I am hoping 400 on race fuel

yeah your gonna need at least a 24" slick for that kinda power... 22's would be waaaaay to small.
