other than the non wiper on the 97 do they ride and perform the same as the 00-01? with a/c or without. thanks to all who know and reply. I was thinking about getting a 98 as a second car when my 03 si lease is up.

other then what you said and the color, you will not see any difference.

And the cams do have a small difference the 00-01 cams are a bit more agressive- so I hear...

I have a buddy with a white 97 ITR and for what he gots done to it its pretty fast as the 00-01 ITRs.

i believe its the intake cam of the 00-01 that's more aggressive than the 97-98 intake cam.

differences between 97-98 and 00-01:
-97 has the old front fascia & bumper (less aggressive) and taillights (amber signals)
-97-8 [intake] cam is slightly less aggressive than 00-01
-no rear wiper on 97
-A/C was optional on 97-8, standard on 00-01
-CW 15" alloys on 97-8, gunmetal on 00-01
-CW offered only on 97-8, CW on 99 ITRs (Canada), FBP & PY on 00, NBP & PY on 01
-97-8 has OBD-II rev1, 00-01 has OBD-II rev2
-97-8 vs 00-01 interior revisions (very few)

LT got most of it. There was a steering rack change and soem small cosmetic stuff.

Wasnt' there a difference in the LSD in the 97 and 98 too?

No difference in LSD. All of them have been helical Limited Slips. Not much to change there and keep a smooth feel

the steering wheel cover says "ACURA" on the 1997 model the 00-01 has an "A" Not sure about the 98

98 has an A. That isn't specific to the R though

Just to let you know, i drive a 97 and keep pace with tuned 00-01 Itr's. I only have AEM CAI and Type One Racing Exhaust and my car is dead even with other tuned Itr's.

97-98 have the red stitch leather shift knob while the 00-01 have the aluminum one.

Has anyone ever decided for sure why the later ITR tested better in motor magazines than earlier ITR?

I seem to recall a full second's difference in the 0-60 times reported between '97 and '00.

my friend's 98 just barely creeps on me when we play around,

so i'd have to agree with opie despite having a PY R.

i'd say all ITRs are different, some may be faster than others, i doubt its just the 97-98 production was faster.

Perhaps it has to do with the OBd2a and OBd2b thing lol

There is no way to really say that any year is faster, because.... Type R's are a very unique car, they are guaranteed to come stock at least 195 HP. Some come with more because of the level at which they are made in japan. In rare occasions, some R owners get an R with as much as 220 HP, running 14.2 or so stock in the 1/4. My friend robs 01 py R went right from the dealer to the dyno and the car had 192 HP at the wheels, stock. just something to think about

I'll believe up to 5-7 hp difference in stock motors, but a 25 hp difference? That's huge!
