issues with 225/50/r15 ?

Post by MKX-R »

Would there be any issues with a 225/50/R15 tires on the front? should I expect any rubbing at full lock?
I've decided to go S-DS this season for scca, and got some S-03 to go with that, 225 in front, 205 in rear, but wanna make sure if rubbing would be an issue. Stock height, no suspension changes, stock 15x6 wheels all around.

Thanks,

225/45 15's only rub at full lock and load. I don't think 225 50's would be a good choice for autocross, especially S-O3's.

well, they're not the best choice for dry, but looking at how some days we get rain, S-03 are great for wet surface.
I ran Kumho V700 last season, but they're dead now, and having low budget this year, I couldn't say no to 50% threaded 225/50/r15 S-03 for just about $12.50 each

would spacers help a little with rubbing?

Well if anyone is in the Vancouver area and needs sets of 16' tires give me a PM. I have many sets. Perllie(SP?), Dunlops, BFG. And some others.

I run the 225 Victo's and use 5mm spacers to prevent much rubbing.

Without the spacers the tires will rub the lower control arm and the inner fender. With the spacers the fronts only rub at full lock and the rears hardly at all.

My race tires are mounted on Millenia's, which are the same as the stock ITR wheels (15x6 & 50mm offset).
The 5mm spacers effectively create a 45mm offset.

I ran the whole season with 225's last year (my first with the car, and the first on race tires), and felt really good about it. You feel the width when driving through the pits, but not when you're on course.
The common setup for DS is 225's on front and 205's on the rear. I also run the 225's on the rear for our local stuff which is on asphalt grip that is not so super.

I hope this helps.
