RPM's At Launch for the 1/4 mile

Most have said that they launch their ITR's at about 5k-6k and they start off not completely flooring it, and then work their way to full throttle....

what i have to say is this:

last year, my friend mike let me take his ITR for a run at the track, and he gave my GSR a run in return. I ran his ITR the same way i run my GSR, which was this.... i dropped the clutch at about 3k and kept the gas floored the entire time. shifted at 8200 or so each time. Ran a 14.3. His car is 100% stock, and the air in the tires were at about 20 psi. His best run for the night was a 14.6 and he was doing the typical 5500 rpm launch with a 75% gas applied and then flooring it. Just figured id let everyone know. He ran a 15.2 in my GSR (not stock) and i ran a 14.7

Most people recommend the first scenario as a starting point so people can figure out what works and what doesn't.

Your technique sounds pretty good and should give others an option to try if they are new to drag racing. :)

I'll try that and give it a shot, but with turbo 3k is where my turbo kicks in. So I wonder if there will be a lot of wheel spin?

launch at 3k...just drop the clutch! not slowly, drop it!

if i do it much higher than 3500, wheel spin!

thats why you dont drop the clutch, 3,000 is no where near the power band.

5,500 rpms, slip the clutch, dont floor the gas pedal until you gain traction, and say hello to 2.1 60fts.

anything higher than 5,500 and you're just wasting clutch

I pulled low 2.1 60's at 7500 rpm launchs on street tires at normal presure. also I trapped 2mph faster than when I launched at 5500

3k launch

I drive a 98' GSR with virtually all ITR parts and what I've found to be best is the 3K launch, If I run it at 5500 i have some unwanted wheelspin.

Slip the clutch?

I dropped the clutch at 5,000 and tires spun out. How do you Slip the clutch?.

2000 Turbo Type-R

You slip the clutch by not having it fully engaged, thus the clutch disk is really slipping on the PP surface and not allowing the full force of the engine to engage the trans/wheels.

Wear the clutch but save the tranny

I've tried all sorts of rpms. What works the best for me is to launch at 45-5k slip the clutch while applying moderate gas.

my itr is set-up with a jackson racing supercharger and because the boost kicks in at such low rpm i cant dump the clutch with full throttle at anything above 2,000 rpm...i think its safe to say that it really all depends what kind of set-up you have. things like forced induction, tires, tuning, cam set-up, v-tec ingagements, weight reduction, suspension set-up, stage of clutch, or anything like this will change on how you should launch the old b18c5...any one agree?

It will all depend of the condition of the track.
I did a lot of drag racing with my integra gsr back in time...
some day, i was able to get 2.0 60ft, some day can`t do better than 2.4 ...
once you know your best 60ft ... when i was seeing those 2.2 and more,
i was just stopping the run knowing I won't beat my best time.

What worked best for me, was 5-6k slip clutch...
...on street tires
