Thats a very very easy question to answer!

Of course like any car, there are different models that you can get. If you buy a WRX, there's also the bigger badder version...the STI

the type R is simply a limited edition race car...the highest model of integra. Has limited slip, nicer interior, front lip, 195 HP, rear spoiler, nicer gear ratio, flywheel, sway bars, strut bars, wheels, 5 lug wheels rather than 4 lug like other integras....way too many things to list.

to put it into perspective for you....

a regular integra lx or gs is like buying a regular mustang v6
an integra GSR is like buying a mustang GT
a type R is like buying a mustang SVT cobra

you see where im going with this? obvious i dont mean that the type r is like a mustang, but hopefully u get the drift

the people who own an R, get an R because they must have it, not because they want it. You may not understand that.. :)

And in addition to the things mentioned above....
for those people that are like me- ultimatley the car gets turned into a 100% racecar (replaced by another daily driver that will ultimatley have the same fate)...
the car is a better platform to start with (mentioned in the above post) as it already has "performance goodies" like the lsd that you won't have to buy later....but also it lacks a sunroof (that is bad weight, less rigid, and has to be removed for most serious road racing classes), lacks the absurd amount of sound deadening material (more bad weight + its a pain in the a** to remove)...etc...
most things that come stock on a type r can be done/added to another integra, but with a bunch more time and $ that just buying a type R....
and theres the "priceless" pure satisfaction of owning a limited run "real type R"...that no modified non-r integra owner will experience...

As described in the FAQ section of this website:

What sets the Type-R apart from any other Integra?

Engine/Drivetrain:

Revised high flow intake
Revised high flow exhaust
Polished and ported heads and ports
Molybdenum coated piston skirts
62mm throttle body
Lightweight valves
Lighter, stronger flywheel
Redline bumped up to 8400 RPM
Limited slip differential

Body/Chassis/Suspension:

Larger brakes (11.1 inch front, 10.2 inch rear)
Revised lighter ABS system
5 lug Hubs
15x6 Alloy wheels
Bridgestone RE-010 tires
New front air dam
Larger rear spoiler
Short throw transmission with shorter gears
Front shock tower bar
Two rear stabilizer bars
- There is really only one rear stabilizer bar.
The other bar, which was added for the ITR only,
is actually a lower suspension brace - it has no
dynamic suspension interaction other than to help
prevent chassis flex
Stiffened suspension
Little over a 1/2 inch (15mm) lower ride height
Faux Carbon Fiber instrument panel (Center Console in 2000/2001)
Deep bolstered, race-inspired seats
Subtraction of 147 lbs (No sunroof, A/C, sound deadening material)
Only offered in White until 2000 then Yellow and Black were also offered
No protective side moldings
