B20 in a Type R?

I met this girl, (my Type-R caught her eye, because her ex had a 2000 Type R). She asked what I had done and I explained just AEM CAI, and planning to go all motor. She continued to say that turbo is the way to go in a Type R. If you've read my posts you know I don't agree with Turbo in a Type R. She said her ex had a B20 (CRV motor) in his Type R with turbo running 7 lbs of boost. CRV motor in a Type R???????

i'm sure it was a b20vtec she was talking about not just a str8 b20....i have a fully built b20vtec :twisted: going into my R this winter.

like i said though...y? the B18C5 is great already! besides, all motor in a type r...i think most on here would agree?

Definatly would agree. I would go out and get a gsr or ls or something and put a b20b if i wanted to. But then i would end up putting a b18c5 in the car so never mind. :lol:

People use the B20 bottom end the same way people use LS bottom ends, because it will bolt up to any B-series head with a slightly higher deck height, this way you now have a 2 liter without having to re-sleeve your block, or bore it out any. It gives you a world more torque.

The only problem with ruunning a B20/PR3-4block/head combo, is that you have to run an extra oil line for vtec, buy or use your old vtec water and oil pumps, and then to get the correct rod/stroke ratio, you need a B17 crank, which is out of an older GS-R, which aren't exactly easy to come by, and very expensive from the factory.

As far as the B20 or CRVtec as it's more commonly called, is a wasted step on a turbo car, just boost another pound or two on a large enough turbo, and you accomplish the exact same thing.

The CRVtec if done correctly can be a lethal combo, the only issue once again, is that it frequently, unless you have the parts sitting around, quikly becomes very expensive, and ussualy not worth the effort.

Though I have to agree, all motor is the way to go, but as far as all those "Go fast crack adicts" out there, some need more speed then others.

In any case, to answer your questions very simply, you don't put the whole B20 in, just the block, although I do have a friend who stuck the whole B20 in a EG hatch that halls ass.

i went with the b20 vtec because i already had the motor and i bought my itr w/ no motor soooo...if i had a c5 to begin w/ i would sleeve it to a 2.0

It's not a matter of spending money, it's a matter of wasting it. The only reason to use a B20 block, is so it says "B20", otherwise, it's better to resleeve you stock block, you'll get as much if not more power, and since you're sleeves will be thicker, it'll also be basically bullet proof. Plus it saves you the expense of puting all sort sof extra parts just for it to work right.

In the case of not having a motor, and just having a B20 sitting around, that's about the only good reason I could think of for starting that kind of a project.

I've been to rice-boi shops that didn't even know what Toda Racing was, well they advised me to do a cr-vtec swap and boosting it because it's a type R head on the lower compression b20b block. The thing they don't know is that the b20 wasn't designed to rev up to 8400 RPM + like the ITR was. IF your going to boost an R do it right. I've heard more bad than good news about hybrid ls/cr-vtec swaps. I just laugh at people dumb enough to boost their R's because they like the sound of the BOV. And this kid that has the cr-vtec R....haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :D
