hey guys, i am wondering if you have ever heard of a Type R having an issue with burning oil.
I am asking because some people where i work told me that honda cars are known for burning oil and owners having to add oil to the engine between oil changes.
I didn't believe this but last summer, i started having this problem with my 2001 integra type r.
The mileage is only 32 000 km, and i ususally change my oil every 4 000 km. But last summer, i decided to change to synthetic oil from mobil 1 and now, i am loosing oil?
only engine mods so far is an AEM cold air intake.
Last time i have checked, i was missing 2 liters of oil and not even 3 000 km has passed since my last oil change.
The acura dealer is giving problems for warranty.
Could the engine be defected? Could the synthetic oil be the problem? And if i change back to normal oil, will this cause any harm to the car? because other than more expensive oil, i haven't noticed any difference from switching to synthetic, but maybe it is just me?

I have to add a little bit of oil only when I drive it hard and I heard the same thing from an other itr owner.

Here's a general rule of thumb from the guys who run HPDE's at the track. Figure using 1/2 quart of oil every ~30 minute session. A little more or little less is okay.
2 quarts in ~3000 miles of street driving is considerably more than you should be using. Synthetic shouldn't be a "cause".
What weight of synthetic are you using?
What brand of oil?
Any other symptoms?

Yup Budman has it right....
The ITR's do consume oil and factors that contribute to the consumption are oil weight, type, brand and how often you go to VTEC.
I generally consume 1 litre of oil between oil changes during the winter when Vtec is a rare visit. In the summer, when I race the car, I check every race day, and add as needed.
