I have been debating on calling the original owner of my shell to confirm its #. I have a short list of possible owners. Is this rude??

I don't think so.

Just introduce yourself, and be polite. I'm sure they'll be wondering how you found them. Nothing wrong with contacting them. Good luck finding the badge # :!:

That sucks # disconnected. I have a last name and city/state of ownership. I checked the registry with no luck. Also I know where the car was first purchased .Any ideas?

Maybe contact the original dealer. They "might" have it. Otherwise, you can look up the previous owner. Go to the GDD forum over on HT, provide the name and possible location (city/state) and see what they can provide. They're pretty good at finding people over there.

Did you go to the dealership in person or talk on the phone? I doubt they would give out the name of the original owner over the phone or even in person due to privacy concerns for their customer.

You're only chance might be to go to the dealership in person, speak with a senior manager, and have THEM find and contact the original owner. Since they are a busy dealership, you may have to grease their hands a lil.

Best bet....

Burn the search button on as many forums as you can, search for any "my R was just stolen" threads that coincide with where your R was reported stolen. Good luck man. :)

Going to the dealership is tough because it is in Atlanta and I am in Ohio :(
The gdd board may not help because the car was not stolen. It was to my knowlegde a insurance total BUT never claimed as a salvaged shell. So when I first did my carfax it was clean! I have checked with my state and va for red flags on the vin # and it is clean. But Ohio wants me to jump through hoops to get it street legal .My R is a race car so this may never happen. I would love just to reach the one and only owner and find out it's badge # and what happened. I will :) hopefully sooner then later.

Hrm. I dunno if I would post that for all to see. Lurking eyes can be anywhere. But hey, if it works, it works for ya.
