Most will tell you that the "best" header would be based on your setup. I would buy the toda header. I think its the best of the shelf header on the market. But I also work for akh, so Im a little biased.

Not sure if you visit h-t. But if you check out the itr forum there is a FAQ sticky at the top. http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/766629

What is your current setup? Future goals? That will help determine which header to purchase.

Thanks for the replies
The car has a few mods port and polished head, apexi vafc, intake and a lightened flywheel. In the future I want to get some cams and some more head work.

So you have had the head ported and polished already? Did they give you any idea on the stage? ie. stage 2 P&P and such. Also, is this a DD car? You might not want to go with to big of cams if so, but you'll make more power with them, especially with the flowing head.

As for the header, what kind of price range are you looking to spend?

Find a used toda or hytech. You "might" be able to get one for that. Nothing new though and honestly, that's not a bad thing. You might be able to get something like a T1R too.

Or he could get a used ($250-350) or new ($375-450) oem JDM 4-1 and be under budget by a fair amount and still be able to put a decent cat on the car (maybe a JDM Cat). Mean while not loosing all that much power while being able to pass a visual check if you use the factory heat sheilds.

With the JDM header I just need a JDM cat to make it fit to my USDM Type R exhaust. Also were would be a good place to find a used Header honda-tech or hondaclassifieds.com any other sites. Thanks for the help

Finding a used JDM cat seems to be a little tough these days, I recently found one on craigslist, but it was sold. As for the oe 4-1 if you search honda/ acura classifieds you will come across one in due time.

Now as for slapping it on the US cat back... IIRC the b-pipe is longer so you will have to modify it.
I did and it was a good improvement. take a look at the pictures here.

Hey thanks for the informative reply. Does that setup leave any residue on your back bumper. I like that exhaust to. Is it imperative to do an exhaust with a header and cat upgrade?

A stock exhaust system can leave residue on the bumper. It's what the motor tosses out that matters.

But if you get a muffler that sticks out a little past the bumper it does cut down on the crap that gets on, by a fair amount.
also on my cardomain page you can see that the muffler sticks out a bunch.

I agree with Rob, the jdm 4-1 header is a very good header for the price... As far as an exhaust goes......HYTEC FTMFW!!!!!

the cost of accelerated wear on your engine parts (mainly valvetrain), and the potential damage it can cause really doesnt outweigh the benefits of having the extra power

With most cars, when going with a very lobey cam (more lift and duration which equates to the farther, longer the valve is open) causes a very rough idle even with good tuning. For a weekend car or track car it wouldn't be as bad but they tend to have problems idleing at all when cold.

So it by bad ideling you mean car will tend to stall or instead rpms will be above 900?

It will have a tendancy to stall, no so much be over 900 rpms.

Also, another thing when using big cams, it's best to use high compression pistons to really utilize the cams function.

well is 11.1 or 11.6 is good enough?

It depends on the cams. That's the stock compression for a JDM engine. So for say a stage 4, you might want to be closer to 12.5:1 or higher.
