Hi, I see that you show your turbo setup to members, I was just wondering about the 1st setup, were you running stock motor with it and is it still running good now?
Thnks

My 1st setup was the most basic setup you can run.

Stock motor (no block gaurd)
T3/T04e
Revhard manifold
2.5 inch flared to 3inch downpipe (custom built)
stock injectors
B&M Fuel pressure regulator
Inline fuel pump
VAFC (for "tuning")

I made 254whp at 5psi of boost. Car ran really good and never had problems (was tuned by the professionals up at Jotech Motorsports...Tony Palo to be exact)

2nd set up:
I upgraded my fuel a bit. I went to 720cc Greddy injectors (over kill for the motor and setup but I knew I was gonna upgrade one day so I just bought those) I went from the VAFC hack to a OBD1 ecu swap and Hondata s200 w/boost. I changed the fuel pump to a intank pump. We were able to turn the boost up to 10psi and the car made 300whp. Never had any issues with the motor. Of course I followed the golden rules of a stock boosted ITR motor. Which are, #1 NO CANNON BALL HIGHWAY RUNS. Meaning, dont try and chase down motorcycles on the highways and dont do no top speed passes. That right there claims more motors then anything else (besides cars not being tuned or not tuned correctly) Even a tuned motor cant hold that much boost at that high speed. #2 Dont go to the track and make 10 passes back to back to back. Your motor will own itself! #3 dont be driving around town boosting the hell out of it in 130 degree weather and what not. Bad news there! Follow them simple rules you'll be fine

3rd and current setup:
Fully Built motor, upgraded injectors, bigger turbo, ignition system added, EMS changed to Neptune. 491whp @21psi and 354lbs tq. Clutch was slipping. Not back for a Revhard cast iron mani and stock intake manifold. Since then I changed the clutch to a twin disc Exedy but havent taking it back to the dyno to turn the boost up. Should see about 550whp till my Turbo mani and intake mani cant breath no more. (thats next on my list along with a bigger turbo)

If you want more details on anything or any of my old setups let me know I'll go into them more in details for you. And if your a all motor guys I been down that road too. GO TURBO!

Hi erik, can u tell more details about the 2nd setup. You did not change your compr. rite? Did you use anythings else or just upgrade your injectors? No bguard or hgasket, no protection for the motor? Stock throttle body and intake manifold? bigger inter. cooler pipes? Please be details.... This topic say "questions for erik b" but any idea from any members will be aprreciated.... I aim at 10psi.
thanx bros and sis

You did not change your compr. rite?
What you mean compr? Compression or Computer? Compression stayed the same, comeputer I was running a OBD1 p72 ECU with the harness and a Hondata s200 w/boost options. (Look into the s300 w/boost I think its better but wasnt out when I did the swap)

Did you use anythings else or just upgrade your injectors?

Bigger injectors, I ran a Walbaro In tank fuel pump (still using it) and had an AEM fuel rail (but you dont need the fuel rail I had it left over from all motor days)
No bguard or hgasket, no protection for the motor?
Nothing...just remember what I said about the motor and how to treat it.
Stock throttle body and intake manifold?
Yea both stock at my boost range now (in the 20psi range) is where I am starting to feel set backs of not upgrading them (intake mani at least)

bigger inter. cooler pipes?
I never upgraded the piping (still havent) from when I went Turbo. I have 2.25 inch piping...u should be fine with that size maybe 2.5 but thats big. My piping can flow 20 plus psi so Im not looking to go bigger. My intercooler was big from the get go aw well because I knew I would be upping boost soon so I just went big from the get go 24x11x3.

Hope that helps u

Hey I just have a question how much $ did you spend with your first set up? And how many miles you motor had back then? Do you think it would of been safe to take car out to track and put it through some stress with 254whp?

Posted: May 24th, 2007, 7:34 am
by Erik B
Motor was broken in already so Im not sure what u mean by taking it out to the track for stress. The motor had about 35k mile on it when I boosted it. And those were 35k hard earned miles too...lol.

As far as money I spent...aw man I couldnt tell u it was so long ago. You can boost a Type R with $2,000.00. I was running a custom kit so I think I spent aboout $3,000.00

Oh by meaning putting car through stress I meant: do you think your first setup was safe for all driving situations and had minimum wear on engine.

At 5psi...it was fine. There was a lot more I could have done to make it safer...I.E. EMS...I was running a FMU/VAFC hack (Reffered to as piggy back system) I could...anyone could pretty much run 5psi with a good EMS tune for yearssssssssss no problem at all. But I dont know anyone that runs that little boost for that long...boost is VERY addicting and you always want a littl ebit more...lol

Hi erik, can you tell me details about your 3rd setup? Fully built, bigger turbo, ignition system, Plz be details, I really want to know what need to be done for fully built. Anyone can give me advices about fully built.
thanks a lot

go with a sleeved block preferably benson or Golden Eagle(what I have). get a set of eagle rods, pistons of your choice. stock head should be ok till about 100000 miles where I just learned a few weeks ago not to rev a head with that mileage to 9500rpms. Honda ignitions can make a lot of power but you really want to upgrade the T1 cam trigger is the way to go. as for turbo it all depends on what you want as for power and where you want your power. I will probably be goin to a T3/t67 H.O. ball bearing next year and shooting for 700whp.

my next set up is goin to be a 84mm block with cp pistons and manley rods and a built B16A head

Hi again, I have one more question, dose bore size matter? I see that they have .010 and .020 or even standard, the bigger the bore the better? Can you guys explain?
thank you

thank you
bigger bore=more torque

if you are on stock sleeves the MAX you can go is 81.5mm

I have seen sleeved blocks at 85mm on boost. that will make your displacment about 2.0

if you do bore you want to go 83 or 84 MAX...reason being if you do throw a piston and your sleeved you can still resleeve it and go a bit bigger. But once you go that big (85) from the get go, once you throw something, your done on that block you'll need a new motor.

Hi erik, what was your time at the track, you have 491whp@21psi rite? what about boostr41? anybody else? Is 11 sec type-r boost the fatstest in this forum?
bye everyone!!

I ran a 12.4 @ 119mph without slicks...and right before my old clutch went out. I never got to go back to the track before I got sent overseas but there are a few very fast ITRs on here...search or start a new topic but do a good search its been covered

my best time is 11.070@122mph on slicks and 11.77@130mph on DOT tires. my best trap is 132mph. that was on a sleeved block with stock bore. I am goin to a 84mm bore(2.0L) and have a ported head for the new set up. also eric I think it is dont blink on here has a mid 11 second ITR on DOT tires.

^ this guy right here is running what my goal is. (your my hero!) lol. This is the last thing on my "to do" list for my car...lol. But if I can crack a 10 sec on my current setup then Im really done (11.00 would do just fine as well). For real this time.

with your power it should be close....I never got a dyno pull at 23psi but I am thinking I was well over 500whp. Launch on the slicks high and hard and it will run fast.

erik b = dontblink?

I thought dontblink was from pa but i looked over his setup when i was researching the gt30 series turbos. I think he has a gt3076r .63 ar and he made some badass power on pump 94 octane. You can see my numbers below so we have pretty similar setups. I only ran teh 1/4 for one day or 4-5 runs and I went 11.3 @ 128mph on 24x8x13 MTs. Seemed to hook pretty good at my power level. Not sure if we have a weight difference, I have a full weight integra that includes AC/PS/ABS you name it. So i'm sure i'm all of 2600lbs without a driver. I should be able to run 10's i think with some more seat time. I was cutting high 1.7 60's all day long.

dontblink is another eric. his fastest pass was 11.61@129mph on 225/50/15 bfg's

That's pretty impressive at that power level. On BFG's i just roasted the tires through the 1/8. Never took them to a 1/4 track.
