Type-R Stolen and Gutted: Need help with insurance appraisal

Hey guys, I am a long time ITR owner in need of some help. I previously owned a 2000 PY ITR, #1468, that was totaled out. Just recently, my 2001 PY ITR, #349, was stolen and stripped, which insurance has decided to total as well. The insurance company offered a pretty low value compared to what I found 2001 R's going for. The only local one (Arizona) was selling for about $20K. Otherwise, I had to search outside of a 300 mile radius to find anything else for value information.

So insurance said to get an appraiser, which I even question would add any real insight beyond market values. I was hoping someone here could recommend an auto appraiser that has some knowledge of Type-R's, and give me a good appraisal of the car. I am not looking for anything shady, or a certain number, I just don't want some idiot who has no idea what the difference between a GS-R and Type-R is.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance! :-)

Why not call several different appraiser's and ask them to tell you what they know about type-R's :)

Firt off, I'm really sorry to hear about your car. She's the second one this week that I know of that was stolen.

When this happened to my ITR, I found an appraiser who specialized in collector cars, and it was truly a learning experience for him. I told him what I knew, and he did the rest of the research himself. I doubt that you'll be able to find an appraiser who already knows everything about the car, so I guess all you need to find is an appraiser who's a real car lover, and he should be interested enough to learn about ITR's as he goes.

ITRCA is an excellent source of knowledge, and most magazines have had write-ups about ITR's at one time or another, look especially for 'car and driver' type reviews. All of this can be useful

Argh, I have to head out, but if there's anything else I can help with, just let me know. I've been through it all before.
