but, why do most jdm import cars (including the type R) have a speedometer that only goes up to 180 km/hr. That only equates to about 100 mph. why are they shown to only go that fast? Is it some kind of law or something over there? ugh.. I'm from the country, so I'm not to learned on this stuff
Any comments are appreciated!

They are speed governed in Nippon. And you can get a conversion chip in the U.K. that will convert to MPH. So you'ld have a 180 MPH speedo.

Here's a chip that will defeat speed limiter and convert cluster to mph.

They pulled this junk here in the '80s for a few years.
My 1982 RX7-GXL had an 85mph speedo. 1983 had a 140mph speedo. Same car, same motor, same suspension, different radio
5000rpm 5th gear was 120mph. Redline was ~8500?

DeLorean's had that same 85mph speedo. I still can't figure out how Doc Brown got her up to 88mph!
(The new DeLorean Motor Company of America sells new retrofit speedos that go to 140mph
)

The speedometer goes up to 190Km/h (at least I thought) which equates to a little bit short of 118mp/h
