i just found out that i have a bad ecu. i took it to the acura dealership with my check engine light p1106, barometer range/performance malfunction, and the only way to fix it is to replace the ecu.

my friend has a 1997 type r ecu, i wonder if that will work in my car.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

If going from 00-01 to 97-98 ecu... Yes as those don't have the immobilizers.

Going from 97-98 to 00-01 ECU... nope or you'd have to remove the imobilizer and/or have it re-keyed.

Or... get a chipped ECU.

If I'm not mistaken, the plugs are different.

any way you do it you will have to get the chipped key thing worked out.

The connectors are the same but the pinouts are different. You would need an adapter harness to run the 97-98 ecu (if anyone even makes one for that particular purpose). OR you could run a chipped P28 ecu with a jumper harness, but if you have emissions testing where you live, this may present a problem (OBD1 ecu in an OBD2 car).

Wouldn't the flash be different too? Didn't the late models have different camming or sumthin'?
