Hey guys just got my new type R, she's a 98 w/ 127km's on her.
I used to have a RSX-S.
As of right now the only mods on it are an AEM cai and a DC sports header.
As for my goals I'm mainly looking at having a quick street/circuit setup. W/ mild cams and tuning.
Should I start by swapping out the parts I currently have on their or are they a good starting point?
I was kind of thinking about the following setup.
-Stock airbox/spoon drop it or J's racing
-JDM 4-1 header
- test pipe
- T1R mid pipe
- Spoon street muffler
- Spoon Head Gasket
- And some type of mild cam (spoon, Jun etc..)
Any changes, recommendations you guys have from your experience about this type or set up or the parts?

Re: New to the type R
in my experience , and alot of people know my old all motor setups , the spoon cams and jun cams do make , ok powwer , but are crazy in price , for a cam that is hardly worth that
I can GUARENTEE you that skunk 2 makes a cam with what your lookin for , they make ALOt of different cams , ffor alot of varied B-Series setups .
You can check oout an in car shot here

What's your budget and what are your goals?
You shouldn't need to pull the head for any of the mods listed except the Headgasket, and IMO I wouldn't pull the head just to replace the gasket. If it was coming apart anyway, then I'd consider it, but to pull it just to swap HG's isn't worth it.
The J's intake is more of a looks piece than anything else. While it might make a little power, and does improve throttle response, there are better options for the same $$$.
I also agree with Jared on the cams. A nice set of Skunk2 stage 2's would work great... but you also need to look into valvetrain upgrades. Personally, I have a set of SuperTech springs, new OEM retainers and Supertech valves (not the flat faced ones) and I'm running Skunk2 Pro 1's. I had the S2S2's and they are a nice cam as well.

Thanks for the advice guys!
In terms of my goals I want to keep the car near stock with only some mild mods to give it some more mid range punch for road course duty. That being said I'm not too concerned about my horsepower to dollar ratio.
Yeah it looks like I'm going to hold off on the headgasket until it actually fails.
I also switched out the CAI for the stock airbox and I'm really happy with it! Way less noise and way better throttle response.
As for the camset I found a great deal on the spoon cams so I picked up a set. The general consensus is that these are just slightly more agressive than stock which is perfect for me. I also liked the fact that I don't have to go with a crazy valvetrain setup to run them. You guys agree?
The t1r header/test pipe/midpipe are ready to go on the car, I'm just waiting for my spoon muffler to show up.
