Re: Need a good Shop to rebuild my head in So-Cal
Where in San Diego are you located at? I would suggest replacing the valvestem seals first before diving into a shortblock rebuild. They're inexpensive and can save you the money/headache if it turns out to be the seals. They can be replaced in your own garage in a few hours and theres ways where y...

Re: Need a good Shop to rebuild my head in So-Cal
First, what oil do you use? If Mobil 1, try switching to another brand. I have heard people drop some of the oil consumption just by switching oils (not weights, just the brands) Secondly, I would suggest (if your going to spend the money anyway) sticking with your OEM VIN matching block than getti...

Re: Need a good Shop to rebuild my head in So-Cal
Most of the people including me have came to the conclusion that the rings are usually the problem when it comes to oil comsumpsion. I know it's my rings because when I had the entire head (minus cams) replaced the problem still exsisted. I only know of one person who got lucky and changed the valv...

Re: Need a good Shop to rebuild my head in So-Cal
Replacing the valve seals in the head could repair your oil burning issues, but you may have more serious issues with your rings. Have you performed a full leak down test? A full leakdown test will help discern if it is the valves or the rings. I took my car to a local honda repair shop and the own...

Re: Need a good Shop to rebuild my head in So-Cal
I'd say it uses about a quart ever 500-600 miles. I know the rings may be at partly at fault, but I wanted to start with the head because its something I can take care of in my own garage. Im not set up to remove the engine or drop the pistons out. If I find a block problem... I would rather buy a n...

Re: New To the Forum...Have a technical Question
take the cams out and measure them. Only 100% way to tell. but I doubt they are changed. take the ECU out and look at it, ECU is probably stll stock. get someone local who knows about Honda/Acura ad let them check it out. Trying to figure it out on the www, useless. I agree... its almost impossible...

anyone know how I can check to see about aftermarket cams or a Hondata reflash?mattsbobo wrote:Could it have Hondata? I know with a Hondata reflash on the new Si, the vtec crossover isn't the same as before the reflash. It's a lot more quiet, and you don't get the same audible sensation.

Re: New To the Forum...Have a technical Question
Does it have stock cams? I've heard of people saying that some aftermarket cams they have put in made a real smooth crossover and a lower decibal crossover. Thats a good question. Is there an wasy way of tellin the stock cams from aftermarket ones? I took the car to a honda repair shop to see if th...

Thanks for the advice, but as I posted earlier... the screen is not clogged.Markusirealius01 wrote:pull the solenoid and give it a good cleaning, make sure that the screen in the bottom is not clogged. That can cause Vtec not to engage.
How do you clean the solenoid?

Re: New To the Forum...Have a technical Question
Thanks for the response... I check the oil level weekly, and just checked it right before I went for a spin around the block. It has enough oil, so im not sure. I guess I should check my oil pressure. Is there an easy way to check to see if the solonoid is working? If I unplug the one wire plug from...

Hey Guys, Just Signed up and wanted to say Hi. I've always loved the Type R and always wanted to buy one, but the timing was never right. I always had other cars to keep me busy and couldn't part with them to get another toy. But, as of 2 months ago, I now own a 2000 Black Type-R #539 with 82,000 mi...
