I know. I was thinking the exact same thing. This needs to go to someone that already has an R to drive so they won't have that itch to scratch.
I bet if whoever buys it doesn't drive it, we'll be seeing it on Barett Jackson ten or fifteen years from now fetching a price of 125k plus.

98TypeR#21 wrote: So now I see this essentially perfect type-r. WOW is all I can say.
But here's the funny thing. If I bought it, I'd take the 8xx miles and turn it into 50k miles in 2 years. Sure I'd have a smile on my face the whole time, but this might be one car that really should be bought by a collector.
I'm not a collector and never will be. I don't want to have a car that can't be driven.
So if I bought it, it would just be another type-r in a few years.
And right now it seems truly unique.

I purchased the car with 743 miles on it, and had it shipped from Florida to Ohio in a closed bed truck.
The pics that surfaced last year show it with 682 miles... and I believe the one you're talking about with <100 miles was a 1998 from Colorado.
Outrun wrote:Did all those miles come from driving to Ohio from Florida? I think it had less than 100 miles when someone else posted a pic of it last year.

True. I first heard of this '97 in December of 2006 at the training center with 682 miles.

Last I heard the '98 in CO had ~125 miles. :)

Ah, I think I got mixed up.

Also, from what I remember there was another 97 kept mostly in storage by some guy known as "T.O.O." I think this guy supposedly was the center of some internet message board controversy regarding himself and/or Endyn.

I also remember a FS thread, possibly here about another 97 in Corona, CA that had low mileage. This was also kept in storage and I think the owner's child/grandchild was trying to sell it because the owner was sick or had died.

That one was sold with 18 original miles I believe. Last I remember the car was modded and mileage was put on. I believe this was around 2003 when all that happened.

That was a 800 or so mileage one as well. That car was sold in the summer of 2007 and is in VERY, VERY, VERY good hands. Last I heard it still has low mileage. Out of all the SUPER low mileage 97's that I am aware of this is probably the one in best condition.

Yeah, the Endyn one was #262. New owner picked it up with 29 miles on it, completely gutted the interior (even the carpet) and bolted in a roll bar. He is heavy into autocrossing. Had between 6-9k miles last I heard.

Great to hear that CA one, #67, fell into good hands. Always wondered what happened to it. :)

All these considered, I feel #69 here could be the most collectible of all the '97s. Low mileage and kept by Honda all these years in a training center...great story. Honda had one other '97 they kept but sold that one off a few years ago.

If you are referring to the 97 that came out of Honda Corporate (not a training center so the car was never taken apart) around 2004 that had 3k miles or so, I was already in negotiations to purchase that one but I was literally moving from one state to another and it was sold by the time I was settled in. Looking at the photos the seller sent me the car was in pristine condition minus a scuffed front lip. Wherabouts unknown. I just remember the owner just wanted it gone ASAP.

I had to comment on how AMAZING this car is. 819 miles ... just awesome! You should bump up that price though... especially with your dollar so low right now.

The problem with such a low mileage car is that you almost have to put it away and not drive it, period. If you do drive it, you'll take a huge hit in value.

Honestly, if someone wants to buy a car like this for driving, you'd be better served finding one that has around 20K-40K miles on it. Still low mileage, but you can drive it on occasion without losing any money on it.

Still, nice to see a few left like this.

I'd like to hear how much you paid for the car? What, half of your asking price? Less?

I use to work in the finance dept at the Honda training facility in Irving TX back in 2001. My friend's mom was able to buy a 97 ITR with 1k miles that was used there for the technicians. She bought it for $10k for him, he was one lucky guy. I moved to CA and found out later he sold it.
