what ems are you guys running??(few more questions)

Post by anothaRRR »

I was wondering what type of engine managament system you guys were using. I am thinking about boosting and want to know what kind of ems to run. I had in mind of hondata, but not which one. Also what size injectors and fuel pump should I run? I am hoping for 250+ whp. What else do I need to worry about that is a main problem?? Thanx guys, I really appreciate it. I know it takes alot of tuning.

I will be doing the Hondata myself this winter. The Hondata website is helpful in selecting the proper system. 440cc injectors will be more than enough to run 250 at the wheel with stock fuel pressure, at low boost levels. Good luck, keep researching and don't take people's word on things, (this includes me) you have to do your own footwork to really learn about boost and tuning.

So you say I should keep the stock fuel pressure?? I will be running about 6-8 psi if it all goes down properly as I plan. Thats the thing im having problems with figuring out, is the fuel, how much?? What fuel pressure?? Should I keep the stock fuel pump??

well I'm putting down a little over 250 with no hondata stock injectors and fuel pressure is way over 100psi at full boost. My car is tuned VAFC. I have had good luck as far as who I had tune my car. He was able to make very nice numbers with low boost. My injectors are not going to last long at all with the kinda fuel pressure I'm putting through them right now. Every once in a while it has trouble turning over. Once you get bigger injectors the fuel pressure will drop. Jan is right thought 440cc will get you to your whp goal very easy and make tuning a whole lot safer and easier. I wouldn't get such small injector. I would go for at least 550cc (they cost the same I think anyway) In the future your going to want more power and have to change your injector again. With the Hondata you want to get the Hondata 200b w/boost and the injectors. I would look into a intank fuel pump too. I'm but to get 720cc injectors because I do plain on building the motor one day with the Hondata and a intank fuel pump in the next month or so. Even 550cc will get you to around 350 easy.

It's very important to keep this in the proper context, I said you can easily make 250whp on 440cc injectors with stock fuel pressure. As Erik said with stock injectors using an FMU you increase fuel pressure to get the proper amount of fuel.

So - :( stock injectors - use FMU to increase fuel pressure=increase fuel
- :D big injectors - stock fuel pressure, change pulsewidth to increase/decrease fuel

In either case you must use a better than stock pump, I use an in tank Holley Forced Induction pump (255lph) there are other brands available

I'm running the AEM ems. It's the best i've seen..... it works great with my 550 cc injectors and holly 255lph fuel pump. I'm running 8.1 comp. and 12lbs of boost on a built bottom end.... it makes a concervative 300 whp and 260 wtq. it's is a 2.0L with a type r top end..... max horse is made at 5500 rpm....... :!:

Brusso just wondering why you lowered your compression so much and are running that low of boost with a fully built motor aand a stand alone. Also why did you go with 550cc injectors?

compression wasn't supposed to be that low. 9:1 is what i wanted but for some reason i just didn't happen.... don't ask..... i will raise comp. alittle in the future (thinner head gasket or mill the head just a little ) right now i'm running the most boost i can with no detonation on pump gas. 91oct. as far as the 550 cc injectors go they are to small.... i'm already at 85% capacity of these injectors. i'm looking for 720 cc so i can run 108 and 22 lbs of boost...... 400 whp here i come.....

FYI according to all the people i've talked to , hondata and AEM ems are basically the same. Use which ever one you can get the best deal on. I personally really like the aem system especially the traction controll feature...... look into it really good........ if you need a good tuner R & D dyno in gardena , CA is great....
