CAMSHAFT HELP

Post by SOLOITR2001 »

I started to looking into getting some new camshafts and camgears for my 01 ITR. I looked into Skunk2s Tuner Stage 1s because they are CARB legal (which is a + ) and they say they are good for a supercharger setup as well which I plan to do. It also says that the Tuner Series helps to keep factory idle quality.

My question is what are your guys experience with the Tuner Series camshafts and can I expect good gains from them?

Thanks for your guys time and info.

Current Bolt On Modifications
-Mugen Intake
-Hytech Header
-Hytech Renault Cat
-Hytech Twin Loop Exhaust

Also I have heard that it is good to go with the same company as your camshafts for your valvetrain upgrades. Is that true? And if so is Skunk2s valvetrain product reliable and promising becauseI was thinking of going with SuperTech?

Thanks again for your time and info.

I've heard that the Stage 1's are very close to OEM ITR cams. I do not have the profile specs in front of me however.

Look for the lift and separation for each of them. Then compare.

Personally, I went with Skunk2 cams and cam gears and Supertech valves and valve springs but used new OEM retainers.

I had another question I had been wondering. If the Skunk2 Tuner Series Stage 1 cams are pretty close to OEM ITRs then what about going with Tuner Series Stage 2?

I didnt even bother to look into Tuner Stage 2-3 or Pro Stage 1-3 mainly because of idle and SMOG.

Do you guys think I could get away with SMOG with any other Skunk2 cams other than Tuner Series Stage 1s if tuned right?

Right now I am in California but by December I will be moving back home to Phoenix AZ. Not sure how strict they are in AZ about SMOG but I know its not as bad as CA.
