Will, a buddy of mine has quite a few hit and miss engines. The guy with the tractors has an Ice Cream business, it's called Old fashioned Home made Ice cream. So naturally he hooks up his hit and miss engines to an Ice Cream churn, and uses that. pretty neat concept too.

I'm from Hawaii where we have our own brand of rednecks. They're probably some of the most ignorant people in all of America.
Anyway, I've seen more than a few monster truck shows and tractor pulls in my time in person. Watching them on TV, just isn't the same.
He actually makes them. Takes his "United" hit and miss motor, puts it onto a metal cart thing, then hooks up the engine to the churn bucked. Slows the churning through gearing. Since you know how they operate, you know when the ice cream is ready by how often the engine fires. When it gets tension, it fires more rapidly and thus meaning the "ice cream" is ready to be frozen. I've been to the monster truck things a few times. It's a little boring to me though. Same thing year after year right along with the ATV show at half time. Now the supercross!!! I'll go there every year. The Supercross is bad ass.

They sometimes (with the govener) take 4 or more cycles before they pop off another round. When they are under load they fire quickly and with much noise (if mufflerless).

You got it. When that thing starts going off, you know the stuff is ready. It really attracts a crowd at gatherings. There is a hit and miss show here in FL down in Avon Park (near Sebring) Every year they have all kinds of stuff. The last time I was out there, there was a hit and miss motor with a 40ft stroke. OMG that thing was huge. The piston was the size of my ITR.
They just installed a cotton press at the show grounds. I will take some more photos of it this evening.
They had to use a 150TN crane to set the last piece up top. :O
It makes some crazy pressure like 4.2 million PSI (force) using 150 psi of steam pressure.
