For those who have sold their R, question.

Post by Bbasso »

I've been wondering about this for a long time.
Is it harder for the Orginal owner to sell the R then a person who bought it second or more hands down the line?

I have no current plans to sell mine, maybe I'm stupid... Because if I did, the money I got from that could really change a lot for me. But It's a hard thing to figure out. This is my first new car that I struggled to pay for 4.5 years. I had many other cars that I can say I've had more fun in, but never lasted this long. My longest relationship with a car was my 85 RX7 GSL 5sp... just a few months over three years. When I sold that I was no where near the mental anguish that I'm in the just wondering stages for the R.

So for those who are the orginal owner that have sold, what thoughts went thru your head?
And basically the same for who bought their R used.

I feel a odd attachment to this car, maybe cause I took the time to find a car that would have limited run, ending year, numbered, and within my budget while being able to keep up with my hard focken driving / abuse. When I was looking for a car back in the late summer of 2000 I had considered many Including the Vette, Camaro, Civic Si, GSR, and the S2000. I basically fell on to the ITR cause the vette would have been a lease. the camaro was not the last year, civic was no longer avail, the gsr... not really what I wanted and was hard to get a black 4dr with 5sp.
Then the ITR popped up in a brochure for the GSR and I was sold.

Basso....I'm in the same boat that you are. I have had my ITR since new back in 2000 and still has only 17,000 miles on the clock. I have had it up for sale a couple of times, but could never follow through w/ it. I have the same weird attachment to my car that you do yours. As you...I have also toyed w/ the idea of selling the car for a serious upgrade. I want an NSX so bad that I can taste it. I can affort it (although it will be tight for the year I want) and it will be a much easier purchase if I sold the ITR. At the end of the day......can't do it. I can't bare the thought of selling it to a ricer that will rape it w/ every Fast & Furious bolt on or even worse....they will not take care of it the way I do, or even worse.....let it set outside and it may get stolen and hacked up. I just can't let it happen. Call me weird, but I guess the R will just have to move over in the garage for big brother....the NSX.

I'm gonna say, being the OG owner is better than the second or third down the line.

it's not worth selling yours

i sold mine for a far superior machine, an evo ix MR and i wish i never did

i love the evo, but the R gave me a feeling when i drove it that i cant fill with the evo

i wish i still had my R everyday

and i will get another

i cant put a finger to it, but there's something that the R does to you and it stays with you even when it's gone

This thread is not about me selling mine, but what have you guys felt while selling and no longer having it.

I have no current plans to sell mine, But like I said... It would make a big change for me if I did, the money would be really useful to get my business full swing. Van, more machines, and a long list of supplies and not to mention a year's worth of Ins.
But I feel that my business will become strong enough that I don't have to sell the R for cash. Besides I'm doing my thing so I can afford the many needed items for the R and myself.

Ive thought about selling mine a few times, even had it listed for a while in the classifieds. I only listed it because I blew it up and really didnt have the money or drive to fix it at the time. It sat for a few months and I was able to get her going again (with your help I might add!! lol).

Since then the car has been thru hell and back and I never really got it running/driving how I wanted, so its been an ongoing goal to "fix" what the original owner did to it. I know it will never be perfect but I want to at least be happy with it. Big plans for it this Spring. But even to this day Ive thought about parting it out and selling it since its all paid off and anything I got out of it would clean up a lot of debt for me. But I think I would have to be pretty desperate to go thru with it, and it would have to be for something I couldnt refuse. Since my gf has the EVO MR I get a little taste of both worlds.

I would LOVE to have an EVO of my own. I love how the car drives and feels, and have been in some very fast heavily modded EVOs so I know what they are capable of. Other than that I think I would have to go with a C5 Z06, all blacked out. My ITR is currently faster in a straight line than a Z06 however so I might actually be disappointed in a Z06 :P

<<<who also test drove a E46 M3 today. It was beat to shit and had that lame SMG automatic tranny. It had major problems so I didnt get to get a real feel for the car.

cliffs: If I had to sell it, it would be hard. So much has been put into the car (money, blood, sweat, tears, anger, etc) that I would probably have to be forced to sell it or be very deperate.

I"ll keep that in mind.....thanks! Oh yeah, correct me if I"m wrong, but the Type R is not just a car......it's a lifestyle! I also agree w/ the others. There is something about the Type R that I can't quite put my finger on it either. I love the way it feels, handles, and just plainly fits. I'm in love w/ my R.

To sell or not to sell

Post by scumlord »

My stock 98ITR (1998-0540) was my first new car and although it will be 9 years old come May '07 I am still excited to drive the car every day. I can't think of too many cars in today's lineup of cars that would make me feel the same way.

I mean the WRX STI and EVOs are wicked machines, but they (IMHO) look like boxes with wheels when next to a 3rd gen ITR. The tegs just look so much sleeker and sexier and sound a hell of a lot prettier when VTEC kicks in ;-)

After 59k my ITR still looks brand new and people still stop and ask me if I want to sell my baby...Nope, I don't think I could ever part with my R as it will no doubt be a collector's item (if not already).

You wanna know how I feel? I feel like $hit and it pisses me off that I can't have BOTH an S2000 AND an ITR.

I still regret selling my 1999 with 118 000kms which performed great for the short time I had it.

And I just might be buying one in the next few weeks....
