Smoke smoke... what's wrong?

My car is burning oil like crazy. The thing is that during normal driving (low RPM's), there is no smoke coming out whatsoever but when it hits VTEC I can see a cloud of black/grey smoke. Is that a sign of bad oil rings or could it be anything else? I know it could be running too rich but it wouldn't burn oil in that case. Any help would be great. Thanks

i had ring problems on my R and it blew out black smoke. im not sure why ur car would only smoke when vtec is engaged, but it may be a ring...

black smoke= rich/ fuel.
blue smoke= oil
white vapor/ cloud= antifreeze/ water
grey smoke= I have no clue.
red smoke= Vtack powaar

Try a leak down test and a compression test. or is could be the type of ECU you are running.
