brake rotor resurfacing

Post by DCR26 »

I was thinking about going ahead and servicing my brake system (pads, fluid, and rotors). Now i want to try and use my stock rotors by just having them resurfaced but since i run Hawk HP+ pads and these are the original rotors they have worn down a bit (can actually feel the lip on the edge of the rotor that shows the difference in width) i was wondering how can i measure to find out if i can resurface the rotors or find out if they would become too thin and have to replace.

Brembo has a really good set that will prob be just as cheap to replace. You can get them cross drilled, slotted, or both. Good luck

Try to find the thinest spot on the rotors and measure from there. There are factory specs that they need to be a certain thickness (off the top of my head, I don't remember but the info should be out there)

If they are to thin, just replace them. Personally I would cut them first, and get all of the grooves out, but if you don't have access to do this yourself, I would measure them as best as possible.

Remember, it's nice to have a fast car, and enjoy that... but when it comes to braking I don't think there is anything more important.
