ARC INTAKE + INDUCTION BOX VS COMPTECH INTAKE + ICEBOX

Post by SOLOITR2001 »

Right now I have the Comptech intake and icebox and Hytech and I like it. Now my gf has in her gsr the V2 which I love the scream of it and its a great sound when vtec hits. But I was interested in how the Arc intake and induction box perform compared to the Comptech setup? Is the Arc lowder do you think cause the way the induction box is?

I wish my intake was lowder to hear and feel that power unleashed more.

Thanks....

Loud does NOT equal power.

If sound is what your after, get the J's racing CF intake. It's by far the loudest I've heard personally, however it doesnt' make much power... throttle response is great though.

Well its not just that I want a loud intake, I mean that would be a plus. But I want what everyone wants the right intake that makes the best results not caring about the cost cause I mean we all have Type-Rs and they arent cars that slap shit on them. You got to give them what they give you, the best of the best....but from what I read about the Arc it just seems better idk. Plus it looks alot cleaner

Best of the best, hands down, in ALL AROUND catagories is the Mugen intake. Others have imitated, but never duplicated this intake.

I have 2 R's, and guess what intakes they BOTH have. ;)

IIRC, they were around $715 from King when I purchased the last one.

Hmmm Ill have to take a look into that. It produces power throughout the whole rpm band right?

Yes, and does NOT have the Vtec "lump" commonly found with AEM intakes (actually... this goes into tuning, but you don't want to see a dip like that in your dyno graph regardless of intake, but however the AEM design usually has this large dip)

I couldnt find the chart but I saw a dyno chart awhile back where the ARC netted 0 hp gains and an actuall TQ loss on a R.

Keep the comptech. Its the 2nd best intake for our caR's.

I have the comptech and it makes a little whistle/whinning noise. Doesn't that mean the air is being restricted?=need a larger intake system?
No, this is common with aftermarket intakes.

If it whistles at a certain throttle load range, it's probably the condition I've read about long ago with the comptech intake. It's apparently a screw head that is catching the air and whistling (if I remember correctly). You can fix it by turning the screw slightly, but I don't really know where the screw is. A long time ago I remember seeing a thread about it. I've had a comptech intake for close to 10 years on my 98, and I've never fixed it.

And no, it isn't a restriction of any kind.

so when did we decide that the $700 mugen intake was the best for the R's?

Right after we saw the Dyno charts.

This isn't a Mugen bandwagon, its simple numbers. The Mugen unit with its cold air induction, velocity stack, and resistance to heat sock, makes more power than any other intake setup on the market. Mugen makes a few great parts, some good parts, and some so-so(bad) parts IMO. This piece in particular is a great part.

Check the rules. What may work for H2 may not for IT. I have a brief understanding of Honda Challenge, but am by no means qualified to give a solid response.

in IT it says that you cannot havean intake that isnt designed like the OEM. ie: no CAI when the filter sits in the engine bay. It looks like the Mugen has the fender intake thing. also, IT says no velocity stacks unless OEM, looks like the Mugen has a stack in the extension?

I believe because of that it would be illegal for IT racing according to SCCA rules

If velocity stacks are illegal, yes. I am not familiar with the rules for your class.
