Check Engine Light "on"

Post by 5-Lug »

Hey guys, probably about last Wednesday my check engine light came on in my 98 ITR. Sunday afternoon my buddy with a code checker ran the code of "P1457". Well, he cleared the code and said to see how it goes, it'll probably come back on when you jump on it... I jumped on it a few times that day and the next day and nothing, then finally Tuesday night while I was driving normal the light came on again, I'm assuming for the same thing. When I look up P1457 it gives something about a "Leak deteced in EVAP control system". Can anybody specify what this is, and is it a problem that needs to be looked in to? And just for curiosity, is there a fuse you pull to reset your computer? I thought I read somewhere that if you pull the clock fuse it resets your computer, or did I just dream that? Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

You pull the radio backup fuse..

is the gas cap on tight? (serious) could also be a bad evap bypass solenoid. If you check the code through the MIL coding, it should come up with a code 90.

For the ECU? Never that I've heard of. There is a reset box (with a blue/white button on my car) for the Maint. Req. light, which is NOT the check engine light.

Thanks for the replies guys. I tried the gas cap because the previous owner said he had to replace the gas cap before because of that reason, and about 2 weeks after I got the car, the check engine light came on and it was the gas cap, but this time it wasn't. I know about the button for the Maintenance Required but it didn't work for the check engine light =(. I'll try the back up radio fuse to reset, if not then I'll just have to pull the positive battery. I know that'll reset it but I just didn't feel like setting my CD Player back to the way it is now with the frequency and such. Plus when I got my alarm put in the other week my clock was reset but my CD Player settings were the same and that's when I swore I read something about pulling the clock fuse to reset the ECU because I remember thinking that's what they must have done. Anyway, thanks for the help guys, I'll see how it goes.

1) Back up fuse will work
2) Pull the NEGATIVE Terminal
3) Square button under the dash only works for Maintenance Light

Considered that it might be a bad O2 sensor?
