Pistons: Civic Type R or Integra Type R??
Pistons: Civic Type R or Integra Type R??
I'm about to get my ITR rebuilt but the shop said instead of putting in new oem integra type r pistons they could put new civic type r pistons and that it would give me alot more power? is this true?? any info would help, thanx.
As Rob has said, the CTR pistons you speak of will yield a higher CP and thus a higher HP figure. What you need to determine is what route you are going with the motor. I would most definitely run some sort of EMS if your going to be running those pistons. And just because something works to someone, doesn't mean it will work for you. Make sure you clearence and clay everything.
1. Don't get CTR pistions.
2. Your CR will be alot higher.
3. It will run like shit on your stock ECU.
4. Don't get CTR pistons (this is coming from a person that has them).
5. If your going to be runing such a high CR with them, why not upgrade your head to take advtange of it.
6. Get forged pistions if you actually want a piston upgrade.

CTR Pistons
This is such a common topic. Bigger is not always better. Lots of times shops may only be regurgitating what they may have read or Heard along the grape Vine and really have no clue what they are talking about.
When someone says CTR Pistons are Better than ITR Pistons... then you ask..."In terms of WHAT?"
Higher CR doesn't always Mean Better HP numbers for sure. Sure ITR Stock cams can take advantage of a Bit Higher Compression than what's given to us from the Factory, but this is something to think about. Remember, your CAMS must compliment the CR and Vise Versa. Lots of people Drop Stage 3 Cams in the car and Expect AWESOME numbers and are OFTEN disappointed.
Before you change anything... think First "What do I want to get out of my Car? What is most important to me HP or Longevity?
CTR Pistons will give you over 12:1 Compression can you get away with that running on PUMP GAS in your AREA?
In My Opinion if you are Running Stock Cams or CTR Cams or A spec or Stage 1 Cams then you are going to be good with 11.X:1.
Personally I am running 11.6:1 oversized JDM ITR Pistons and a Spoon HG. I am using Spoon Cams Up top which don't have a BIG jump in Lift But a Nice shift in Power due to a longer Duration...
