Fresh Motor Buildup Question.

Ok, I just installed CTR pistons to bump up the compression. I have pair of Spec B's on the way, but I need to pass emissions. Will I be ok just retarding the timing and running 93 so I can pass on stock cams? I will shortly be switching to Hondata, but after break in.

Thanks,

Matt

Man, I finally got my car fixed. The previous owner had installed a "Stage Three" clutch about 10,000 miles before I purchased the car. He told me it was "indestructible," and that I wouldn't have to buy a new clutch for a long time. Funny thing I ruined it within 2500 miles. Wha...

Motor Rebuild Question

Ok, I finally got the clutch fixed in my '98 ITR. Next project is the motor. It is burning a lot of oil...about 3 qts in 1,000 miles (No, I don't let it get that low, but in a mileage figure). I held a piece of white paper behind the exhaust, and had my friend press the accelerator and it left a nic...

Well, I will be throwing it onto some jackstands this weekend. I will keep everyone updated on the situation.

Bad news, my problem has gotten so bad that I don't even want to drive the car until it gets to a shop. New symptoms; the hissing noise that was made when I pressed the clutch pedal in before has turned into an irritating sqeaking noise. It only happens when I press the pedal. The car will no longer...

Ah man, thats where I saw it too. Probably a stupid idea to buy a used tranny, since I am having problems with mine. I heard the USDM were on backorder as well. I guess I will continue my search.

Thanks,

Matt

What about buying a Spoon tranny? I found one for $1750, and it seems to be superior to the stock unit, but one thing I realized is that there is nothing where the VIN is secured to the one I have now. Are they street legal?

Thanks,

Matt

I would be interested in trying to rebuild the tranny myself, but I don't have much car experience, only dirtbikes. Do you think this is something I could do on my own? When I first got the car, it was difficult to put into gear, but yesterday, I couldn't even get it into reverse, and the clutch is ...

Tranny/Clutch Problem

Ok, I have had my '98 Type R for about 3 weeks now, and have worked through several problems, but here is my newest one... First gear is very hard to shift into, it takes some muscle to jam it into it. Sometimes when I stop while the car is in first it will shake like the clutch isnt fully disengagi...

Ok, I have been driving it the past couple of days and here are my observations: 1. Car is difficult at times to put into 1st gear, and tends to grind on shifts into 3rd and 5th. 2. When in traffic, the car will feel like it is idling rough stopped while in gear, but will feel normal if taken out of...

Maybe the wind picked up during the night, it just felt like it was easier to get up to speed, but once I did 140, it was hard to get it back up past 120.

New Problem....

Ok, new problem. I fixed the VTEC problem, seems like it burns oil pretty quickly in 500 miles. Anyways, highway driving going 140, starts to lose power in 5th gear. It seems to now pull in all gears but 5th....after 90 its a push to get it to 5700rpm, and it feels like its sort of fighting the brak...

Thanks,

Sputtering in VTEC mode

Hi, I just bought a '98 Type R last week and the car has been a blast. Today, it started to begin sputtering when VTEC comes on. You will hear it hit at 5700, then go on and off, and the car will sort of lurch. It seems to me like either an ignition or fuel problem. Has this happened to anyone here?...
