Problems with fit on Comptech Icebox

Post by kabob »

To quote myself in the intake thread that nobody seems to be reading anymore :P
kabob wrote: As for the Comptech intake and Icebox, from what I hear getting the intake portion as well may make for a 1 or 2 hp gain but it's not really worth it unless you like the looks. I really didn't want to order the intake but it comes with the filter (OEM cone filter doesn't fit) and modacar.com was out of the filter seperately (the filter by itself costs $69 retail).

After installing the complete intake system over the weekend, I'm a little disappointed. Not necessarily performance-- I can't feel it on the butt dyno and the only aural difference is some hissing in the low-rev range-- but the fitment isn't ideal. Some genius decided to make the filter housing for the Icebox smaller than the length of the stupid filter. The lower section is stretched lengthwise to accomodate and now the lid doesn't fit properly. I had to push it down past the grooves just so it would stay on

Anybody else have this problem with their Icebox?

I might be misunderstanding your post, but dont you have to push it down over the "grooves" to get it to stay anyway? I have never used the Comptech filter with mine, but I have no problems with fitment w/ K&N 3130.
Do not blow compressed air into your mouth or ears.

Nope, it's supposed to fit neatly in the grooves because that's the way they send it to you shrink-wrapped in the box. The problem I'm having is the plastic part that sticks out beyond the cone that goes in through the grommet on the Icebox housing makes the filter longer than the size of the Box. So it gets stretched lengthwise :(

Would pics help or do you guys understand what I'm saying?

My Icebox fits pretty well, as does the filter. Can you take/post pictures of the problem?

My icebox fits well. I also fount I like the fit of a K&N 2820 on stock filter horn the best.

As suggested in the other thread, call Nate, Joe or Bob at Comptech http://www.comptechusa.com and tell them I suggested you get in touch with them.

Also some pictures would help us.

I'll take pics whenever I can borrow a digital camera. I sold mine a few weeks ago
